Does Proverbs 25:2 Contradict 2 Timothy 3:7

Here is a video response to this question

Proverbs 25 King James Version (KJV)

2 It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.

Compare and Contrast

2 Timothy 3 King James Version (KJV)

1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.

2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,

4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,

7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

8 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.

A God “co-incident” that you should choose the very same two Bible verses with which I begin my latest book. It is now at the printers, and is also in the process to be on Amazon and other ebook domains. The Proverb part is telling us that God has hidden many important matters in the Word, and we, as “kings” (Rev1:6) are to search out that matter. But the 2Timothy part lets us know that most shepherds of the saints will box themselves in, in what they will learn and teach. Thus, missing those important matters, and cheating the sheep by not teaching those important matters re; these Last Days.

    • Elder David, thank you for your insight also (and thank you also for sending me your previous two books – I appreciate your generosity). I appreciate your insight here, God does want us to search out matters, but as Paul noted, we can’t stay in a box in all matters, we cannot cheat the sheep. Thank you, elder.

  2. Does Proverbs 25:2 Contradict 2 Timothy 3:7

    Proverbs 25:2:
The roles of God and king are compared. God, whose knowledge is above all human knowledge, whose ways are unsearchable, keeps things to himself because He needs no counsel. On the contrary, kings should rightly seek to know what they must know in order to rule righteously. God gets glory because man cannot understand his universe or the way he rules it. A king gets glory if he can uncover the truth and administer justice. God has “set eternity in the hearts of men”. This means that we can never be completely satisfied with earthly pleasures and pursuits. Because we are created in God’s image.1)we have a spiritual thirst, 2) we have eternal value, and 3) nothing but the eternal God can truly satisfy us. He has built in us a restless yearning for the kind of perfect world that can only be found in his perfect rule. He has given us a glimpse of the perfection of his creation. But is is only a glimpse, we cannot see into the future or comprehend everything. So we must trust him now and do his work on earth. God is unique in his knowledge and in his control of the future. His consistent purpose is to carry out what he has planned. Nothing can be hidden from God. He knows about everyone everywhere, and everything about us in wide open to his all seeing eyes. God sees all we do and know all we think. Even when we are unaware of his presence, he is there. When we try to hide from him, he he sees us. We can have got secrets from God. It is comforting to realize that although God knows us intimately, he still loves us. No one has fully understood the mind of the Lord. No one has been his counselor. And, God owes nothing to any one of us. God alone is the possessor of absolute power and absolute wisdom.
    II Timothy 3:7:
The knowledge of the truth : First Timothy 2:4 uses this same phrase, equating it with being saved. Here, Paul identified those women and men who were often jumping from one false teacher or cult to another without ever coming to an understanding of God’s saving truth in Jesus Christ. The present age, since the coming of Jesus Christ, has been loaded with perilous false teaching that can’t save, but does damn. Because of their cultural background, women in the Ephesian Church had had no formal religious training. They enjoyed their new freedom to study christian truths, but their eagerness to learn made them a target for false teachers. Paul wanted Timothy to watch out for men who would take advantage of these women. New believers need to grow in their knowledge of the Word, because ignorance can make them vulnerable to deception. This verse is not opposing study and learning, it is warning about ineffective learning. It is possible to be a perpetual student and never graduate to putting theory into practice. But honest seekers and true students look for answers. Remember this as you study God’s word. Seek to find God’s truth and will for your life.

    • Excellent insight brother Mantada. You are correct, the verses do not oppose each other, but does warn against ineffective learning and remaining an ongoing student because of the lack of actual practice (action). Thank you for commenting and providing insight, POWER be with you.

My booklet is now established on Amazon. The title is; The “Whys” of the Blood. It goes into great detail about Prov25:2 and 2Tim3:7, and how our present era is affected by not taking those two verses seriously. But more than that, it tells why churches do not teach the real gospel, choosing instead to present a welcoming soothing message that has no conviction of Holy Spirit. With rock and roll worship music, they unknowingly seek to bring in many followers of the pastor, rather than Jesus. Keywords to find my book at Amazon are, Religion, Christianity, and by the author’s name, David L. Williams. I wanted them to be free, but their minimum price is dictated at .99 each.
