Genesis Chapter 3 Summary

In this chapter, our species took a detour that has cost us severely.

Eve was out without Adam, her covering, and the serpent deceived her by telling her she would not die. Instead, she would become like God by having knowledge.

She took this ‘conversation’ back to Adam. When Adam went along with it, God came looking for them to determine the consequences for what they did. The immediate thing to note is that Adam took no responsibility for his actions.

 Genesis Chapter 3 Summary

He immediately offset the problem onto God, through Eve, saying “the woman You gave me,” she is the problem. Eve blamed the serpent, and the serpent wasn’t asked a question but punished right away. God punished the serpent, Eve, and Adam for their transgression.

Death was pronounced on all three, but specifically and additionally, Adam was sentenced to work and the ground was cursed for his sake because he listened to his wife instead of God.

Eve gave women, including herself, multiplied sorrow in conception, sorrow in bearing children, and she will be under the power of her husband as he will rule over her. Before it was joint or co-rulership.

Adam was sentenced to work…

God killed a lamb for their sins and gave them coats to clothed them. God also acknowledged that man did become as He was in having knowledge of good and evil. Thus God removed Adam and his wife from the garden of Eden and kept man from the Tree of Life by placing Cherubims with flaming swords.

Man was kept away from the Tree of Life, which means man is doomed to die physically and spiritually. What a great fall.
