This further angered Samson and he began to slaughter the leaders of the Philistines. The Philistines had enough; they invaded Judah to get to Samson. Judah gave him up. However, Samson broke free, grabbed the jawbone of a donkey, and killed a thousand of the Philistines.
After this, a man from the tribe of Dan became the leader of Israel. Samson judged Israel in those days for twenty years. Samson had a pretty reckless lifestyle. He slept with harlots and killed often. These things were against the Royal Covenant of the LORD, but Samson stayed in his boundary.
Those boundaries included not drinking wine, strong drink, and unclean foods. This way he kept his strength.
