The Glory Had Departed from Israel

Previously on the History of Israel, Eli the priest heard the ark of the LORD had been captured by the Philistines. He fell back in his chair and died from his injuries, which included a broken neck. He judged and ruled Israel for forty years.

His daughter in law, Phinehas’s wife, went into labor upon hearing the news. She named the child Ichabod, that was to say the glory had departed from Israel because the ark of God was taken. The Philistines were fulfilling prophecy by defeating Israel in that battle.

The Glory Had Departed from Israel

They took the ark of God, slew Eli’s sons, and caused Eli’s death. However, taking the ark of God wasn’t part of the plan. God began to trouble them for taking the ark of the Covenant. They set it in the temple of their god Dagon.

The LORD showed them there was a difference between Dagon and the Yahawah (YAHWEH or Jehovah). The people of Philistine began to develop diseases, sores, and panic. To be continued…
