Genesis Chapter 27 Summary

Genesis chapter 27, Isaac, now an old man, prepares to bless his son Esau and thus pass the family blessings to him.

Rebekah hears it and prepares Jacob to impersonate Esau to receive the blessing.

Rebekah makes a great goat soup for Isaac that he loved, she sent Jacob in to present him the meal. Jacob appears or pretends to be his Esau, going as far as verbally lying claiming he is Esau.

Isaac hesitates, but could not deny the smell and feel of Jacob’s costume of Esau. Isaac passes the blessings and covenant to Jacob (the person in the room).

Esau comes in after the ordeal is complete with Jacob, only to find Jacob has supplanted him again. Esau he cries for a blessing from his father, and receives the leftovers.

Edom Declares to Himself to Kill Jacob

In his frustration and anger, Esau secretly plans to destroy his brother Jacob. Rebekah urges Jacob to go to Haran to find a wife, using that as the excuse to allow Isaac to allow him to go. Really, she was protecting her boy from her other boy Esau.
