Day of Atonement 2012

The Day of Atonement 2012 is here on this day…and we thank God for it as we remember His love toward us. We will get right to what the day of atonement is all about; let us begin in Leviticus chapter 23!

26 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

27 Also on the tenth day of this seventh month there shall be a day of atonement: it shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire unto the Lord.

28 And ye shall do no work in that same day: for it is a day of atonement, to make an atonement for you before the Lord your God.

29 For whatsoever soul it be that shall not be afflicted in that same day, he shall be cut off from among his people.

Afflicting your soul is fasting! See Isaiah 58:5

30 And whatsoever soul it be that doeth any work in that same day, the same soul will I destroy from among his people.

31 Ye shall do no manner of work: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations in all your dwellings.

32 It shall be unto you a sabbath of rest, and ye shall afflict your souls: in the ninth day of the month at even, from even unto even, shall ye celebrate your sabbath.

Today is the Day of Atonement and this day is pretty self explanatory once we read it and it is clear on what it means and represents. The God of Israel spoke to Moses and said on the tenth day of the seventh month there will be a day of atonement.

There is to be a Holy Gathering or service and everyone needs to afflict themselves and offer something to the God of Israel.

Also no work is to be done on the day of atonement. Now if you have to work because your boss does not give a crap about the Word of God, or is ignorant about it and is unforgiving in allowing you a day off, then you rest in the mercy of God.

However, you should ask and see if you will receive a day off for the day of atonement. Last resort is to call in sick…

The reason why the God of Israel requires absolutely no work is because this day Jesus is actually making an atonement for our sins. We have to be completely focused on the God of Israel.

If you do not afflict yourself (which is to fast) and you do choose to work, in the children of Israel days you would be cut off from the God of Israel’s people. Today is the same, if you do not put yourself under the blood, you are naked and not covered by Jesus.

No work is to be done and this is a statue for ever in all generations and in all areas in which you live. It is a sabbath day or rest, a day to fast and pray from sun down to sun down.

Fasting and Praying on the Day of Atonement 2012

Now what does all of this mean? Jesus Christ was sent by the Father to die for the sins of man. His soul was afflicted, He was beat and bruised for our sakes; He was spat on and ill treated for our sins (Isaiah 53). His blood is what covers us.

This is why the Israelites were ordered to put the blood on the doorpost to keep the angel of death from killing them. Likewise today, we are to keep the blood of Jesus over our minds by keeping the testimony and commandments of our God.

Jesus is our atonement. His death and resurrection recovers us or salvages us back to the Father because our bail was paid. The atonement was made so that we can live.

Therefore it is imperative that we honor respect and follow the rules of this day to show our obedience, appreciation, and gratefulness of what it means and what was done for us.

Below are some scriptures to further help you understand what this day represents and how you should go about the day of atonement.

St. John 1

29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

Jesus Christ is the Lamb of God that took away the sin of the world. How did Jesus do that, died for us and made atonement for our sins.

Romans 5

8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.

10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

11 And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.

Jesus is our atonement, and the Day of Atonement is a statue to be kept forever in all of our dwellings and in all of our generations. It is the single most important day in all of Christianity and it is the actual day Jesus will return to the earth.

God bless you in the name of Jesus – Happy Holy Day! The day of atonement 2013
