Numbers Chapter 6 Summary

Numbers Chapter 6 Summary

Numbers 6 is primarily about the vow of the Nazarite.

When a man or woman wanted to separate themselves to get closer to God or dedicate themselves to God, during the days of Israel, this was called a vow of the Nazarite.

It is like fasting and praying, but with divers rules around it. For instance, once they take the vow (for whatever amount of days they vow), they are to refrain from drinking any kind of alcohol, and consuming any kind of grapes; nothing from a vine tree, or from the kernels and husk could be consumed.

They aren’t to shave their heads and are to let their locks grow on their heads. Last, and most importantly, they aren’t to come near a dead body, even if were their own parents or brothers.

They COULD NOT be defiled by a dead body. While they have made a vow, they are holy to their God and the consecration of their God is upon their head. If someone dies in a nazarites presence, they are defiled and would have to offering sacrifices to the priest to make an atonement for them.

The chapter ends with a prayer of blessings for the children of Israel, which is known by many Christians. “The Lord make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee; The Lord lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.”

We pray the Father to add blessings to the reading and doing of His Holy Word through His Son Jesus the Messiah. Amen!
