Daniel 3 Part 2 Chapter Studies

Peace and blessings and welcome to BibleStudyMinistry.com. Today, we are going to study Daniel chapter 3, but the second segment of the prophet Daniel as part of our chapter studies.

We’ll be reading and studying at verse eight of Daniel 3. Daniel is a fascinating book on historical content. More vital to the book, future prophecy is outlined in large scale here.

Chapter Study on Daniel 3 Part 2

8 Wherefore at that time certain Chaldeans came near, and accused the Jews.

9 They spake and said to the king Nebuchadnezzar, O king, live for ever.

10 Thou, O king, hast made a decree, that every man that shall hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, shall fall down and worship the golden image:

11 And whoso falleth not down and worshippeth, that he should be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.

12 There are certain Jews whom thou hast set over the affairs of the province of Babylon, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego; these men, O king, have not regarded thee: they serve not thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.

[Remember, the Jews are in captivity for disobeying their God, the God of Israel, and many of them know it. Therefore, serving another god to them is completely off limits. Men jealous of Daniel and his brethren’s ascension to high positions in Nebuchadnezzar’s cabinet knew this is the time to get rid of these men in a hot and toasty way!]

13 Then Nebuchadnezzar in his rage and fury commanded to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Then they brought these men before the king.

[We can understand why the king would be rageful; he promoted these Jews above his own men, and now they rebel openly to the king. It would make any average man upset.]

14 Nebuchadnezzar spake and said unto them, Is it true, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, do not ye serve my gods, nor worship the golden image which I have set up?

[We have to think that Nebuchadnezzar has amnesia, because he must’ve forgot what he said in Daniel chapter 2 (v48), Daniel’s God was a God of gods and a Lord of kings. Time passes and people forget major events that occurred in their life.]

Studying Daniel 3 Part 2

15 Now if ye be ready that at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, ye fall down and worship the image which I have made; well: but if ye worship not, ye shall be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace; and who is that God that shall deliver you out of my hands?

[The king gives his last fiery warning to the men, asking them who is their God that will deliver them. It is the same God that delivered them before when the wise men in Babylon were ordered to be killed.

In addition to this, when men question the God of Israel, they usually wake the God of Israel because now they are taking away from the Most High. Sennacherib, king of Assyria, said similar things when he came to sack Jerusalem, and Hezekiah (then king of Judah) petitioned God to listen to how this man “call Him out.”

Nebuchadnezzar did similarly in this situation, questioning the Almighty’s power and ability.]

16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer thee in this matter.

17 If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king.

[Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were not at all careful, tactful, or tender in their response to the king in this matter. They told him plainly, if it is so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning furnace.

They had faith that GOD could, they just weren’t sure if God would. This is so for us to observe today, God has plans and sometimes God’s plans are meant for someone close to us to die, hurt, or even for us to die or hurt.

It is vital for us to understand that God is able, therefore leaning all our trust and faith on Him, at the very least trust in God’s mercy.]

18 But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.

[The brothers were not careful to tell the king they were not going to bow down to some image, they were going to remain faithful to the Lord their God.]
