Chapter Summaries: 1st Kings Chapter 8 Summary

1st Kings Chapter 8 Summary begins with Solomon summoning all the heads of the tribes of Israel, and the purpose of the summon was to have the ark of the covenant brought up from the city of David, which is Zion, or Jerusalem.

This was to be done to establish the new house of the Lord. All Israel assembled on the seventh month, a feast or festival month for the children of Israel (see Leviticus 23).

The priest then brought the ark of the covenant of the Lord to the house of the Lord. They set it in the Most Holy Place, under the wings of the cherubims. As the priest did this, a cloud filled the house of the Lord, insomuch, the priests had to get out of the building because the glory of the Lord filled the house.

1st Kings Chapter 8 Summary

Solomon remembered that the Lord said He would dwell in the thick darkness, and knew it was the Lord!

Towards the end of the festival, Solomon blessed the people and reminded them how the Lord said to David that “your son will build my temple,” and Solomon felt God fulfilled His Word, which God did perform through Solomon.

Solomon then prays that God keeps His eyes and ears open to His people when they pray towards this temple. He prays that no matter where His people go, that if they pray towards this place, God should hear them.

Solomon even prayed for the stranger who will call on God’s name, for God to also do all that the stranger, calls on the Lord for. This is so that all the earth know that God is the God of the Heavens and Earth, and the God of Israel is God alone.

The children of Israel feasted and celebrated for fourteen days, but on the eighth day, Solomon allowed people to go home if they had to or wanted. What a joyous and fruitful time in Israel.
