First John chapter one is a relatively short chapter and so we’ll briefly study it and then we’ve put the entire chapter below so you can read it.
1 John chapter 1 Bible Study
1That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;
2(For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;)
John begins by telling the reader about the word of life; which is the word of God. He is speaking of Jesus Christ. Jesus is that which was from the beginning that they heard of, but in John’s generation they also saw with their eyes and looked upon the Lord Jesus.
They had the blessing of touching Him with their hands, because Jesus is the Word of life. It did say in John chapter one that “in the beginning was the word,” correct? John and the disciples saw the Word manifested and bear a true witness to it.
Therefore, they show us that eternal life is possible through Jesus Christ, because He was with the Father and the Father has shown Jesus to us.
7But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
8If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
The Blood Can Reverse Anything…
The blood of Jesus Christ is clean enough to cleanse even the worse kind of sin. This is if the confession is made with sincerity and the sin is not revisited willingly; Jesus will forgive. Furthermore, John says if we say we have no sin; we are simply lying to ourselves and there is absolutely no truth in us.
This book was written by John the son of Zebedee. Peter, James, and John (here) are the three guys Jesus took with Him to do the toughest miracles, and to show the choicest visions. These men definitely know a thing or two about how to get salvation.
God is light and there is no darkness in Him. God is righteous in what He does. To be like Jesus, we have to walk in total light and that is in righteousness. It is illustrated best for us in Proverbs chapter 6 verses 23:
23 For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:
The Commandments are a Lamp
The commandments are a lamp and the law is light and corrections (reproofs) of instruction are the way of life. We need the commandments, we need the law for light; they are what corrects our behavior so that we can walk confidently into the way of life (eternal life).
If you do not have faith in Jesus by keeping the testimony and you do not keep His commandments there is no light in you. But John says we walk in light because Jesus is light and there is no darkness in Him.
Do not deceive yourself by thinking you are in fellowship with Jesus but do not keep His ways, which are a lamp and light for us.
God bless you today, leave a comment below with any added inspiration or anything that can exhort readers. Until next time, peace in Jesus name. Amen

1st John Chapter 1
1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;
2 (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;)
3 That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.
4 And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.
5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
