Deuteronomy Chapter 22 Summary

Deuteronomy Chapter 22 Summary

Deuteronomy 22 begins with ordinances on how to love your brother; such examples includes if one saw his brother’s ox going astray, he is not to hide eyes as if he did not see it.

Instead he is to bring his brothers ox back to his brother’s house.

Brotherly love and treating one another as one would want to be treated is the message God is teaching the children of Israel.

The same process of bringing a man before the elders who devalues the name of a daughter of Israel by taking her as a wife and then putting her out and claiming false accusations against her.

The dad of the daughter can bring these accusations before the elders and if found guilty the man would be fined. If the accusations were true, the daughter would be stoned for bringing folly in Israel.

Anyone guilty of adultery, both the man and woman were to be stoned to death. Killing guilty parties helped put fear in the hearts of others so they did not commit the same crimes and make it a cultural practice in Israel.

In the case of rape, the man is stoned, in consensual sex of a woman engaged, this is just as if she is married and they are both stoned unless the woman cried out for help.

These are things every nation has to deal with, this is how the kingdom of Israel dealt with it.

We pray the Father to add blessings to the reading and doing of His Holy Word through His Son Jesus the Messiah. Amen!
