The next phase of the chaotic nation of Israel came from a Levite who lived in Mount Ephraim. Although a Levite, he had multiple wives. One of his concubines was from Bethlehem Judah and she was unfaithful to him and was eventually sent back to her father’s house.

The Levite tried to reconcile with his concubine by paying a visit to her at her father’s place. Her father was relieved at his presence. The couple made up and decided to leave her father’s compound.
He left late in the afternoon for a long journey back home as far as Jerusalem (which was still widely known as Jebus at that time). Instead of staying with the Jebusites, the Levite wanted to stay among his own people and settled in Gibeah. Gibeah and Ramah belonged to the Benjamites at that time.
