I Have Made Thee a Watchman

I Have Made Thee a WatchmanOnce something is given to you, you have it. It is possible to have something and not know you have it. It is possible to have something and not know how to use it.

Nevertheless, in knowing or not knowing, having something and not using it is every bit as dangerous as doing a handstand on top of the John Hancock Building in Chicago on a very windy day.

In the book of Ezekiel in chapter 3, Ezekiel gently had to be reminded to do his job. He was being commissioned to go to the rebellious house of Israel who were in the captivity at Telabib near the river Chebar.

Ezekiel observed their condition and their mental states and he was astonished and bewildered that these were the people of the Lord. He remained among them seven days without uttering a word. He was sent to prophesy against them to hear and do the Words of the Living Creator.

He couldn’t muster up the strength.

So the God of Israel had to visit Ezekiel and give him a gentle nudge to get to work.

I Have Made Thee a Watchman

17 Son of man, I have made thee a watchman unto the house of Israel: therefore hear the word at my mouth, and give them warning from me.

18 When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand.

Ezekiel was given the Words of the Most High. Furthermore, Ezekiel was commissioned to go share it. It became his duty, not to cry for his people, not to be amazed at their indifference towards their Creator, or their rebellion.

Ezekiel had one job … go tell them what thus saith the Lord. “Go warn them of Me!”

If not, they will die in their sin, but their blood will be required at Ezekiel’s hand/head.

I Have Made Thee a Watchman to the House of Israel

Could this be the same for us in today’s world and generation?

Are we obligated to speak up and tell the people about the great and dreadful Creator of this vast universe? It is certainly the job of the pastor, priest, or prophet.

What about common people like us?

The thing is this … all the people of the Bible were common folks at one time or another who did the works of the Most High and shared His glory with others.

That is my job … that is your job! If not, what you have could be taken from you!
