The Lord Hath Been Sore Displeased with Your Fathers

The Lord Hath Been Sore Displeased with Your Fathers: It was the eighth month in the second year of Darius, king of Persia, that the Lord’s word came to Zechariah. The Lord said He has been sore displeased with your fathers. Therefore, this is what the Lord says to you O Jerusalem; “Turn to Me and I will turn to you!” “Do not be like your fathers who didn’t listen to the cry of the former prophets.”

The former prophets cried out saying, “This is what the Lord of hosts says, Turn yourself from your evil ways and doings.” However, they did not listen nor hear the Lord. And now, where are your fathers and prophets today? Do they live forever?

“But my words and statute I commanded my prophets, didn’t they take hold of your fathers? Then your father’s returned and said, ‘Just as the Lord of hosts thought and said He would do to us; according to our ways and doings, He has done it to us’.”

The Vision from the Lord of Hosts

In the second year of Darius of Persia, on the 24th day of the eleventh month (the month Sebat), the Word of the Lord came to Zechariah. I saw in the night a man was riding on a red horse. He stood surrounded by myrtle trees in a valley.

Behind him were red horses, speckled, and white. I asked the angel that was with me, “what are these?” The angel said to me, “I will show you what these are.” The man that stood surrounded by the myrtle trees answered saying, “These are whom the Lord has sent to walk through the earth. They are the reporters and watchers of the earth.”

The reporters answered the angel of the Lord that stood among the myrtle trees and said, “We have walked through the entire earth, and all the earth is peaceful and at rest.” The angel of the Lord replied, “O Lord of hosts, how long will You not have mercy on Jerusalem and the cities of Judah, which You have had indignation the last 70 years?”

The Lord replied to the angel that spoke good and comfortable words with me. The angel said to me, this is what the Lord says, “I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy. I am very sore displeased with the nations that are at ease; because I was just a little displeased, but the nations have helped to forward the affliction.”

The Lord will still Comfort Zion

Therefore, the Lord said, “I am returned to Jerusalem with mercies; My house will be built in it.” “A line will be stretched forward upon Jerusalem.” Keep crying out and say this is what the Lord of hosts says, “My cities through prosperity will still be spread abroad. And the Lord will still comfort Zion and choose Jerusalem.”

Then I, Zechariah, lifted up my eyes and saw four horns like the horns on a ram. I quickly asked the angel that talked with me what they were. The angel said to me, these horns are the nations which have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem.

The Lord then showed me four carpenters, and I ask what have the four carpenters come to do? The angel replied, “These are the horns which have scattered Judah in a way that no man did lift up his head. However, the carpenters are come to fray the horns, to cast out the horns of the nations, who have lifted up their hands over the land of Judah to scatter it.
