Here is another question that we felt the need to address:
Fringes were a sign and reminder for the children of Israel to keep the commandments of their God Yahawah. See where the actual commandment was given … Numbers 15:37-40
37 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
38 Speak unto the children of Israel, and bid them that they make them fringes in the borders of their garments throughout their generations, and that they put upon the fringe of the borders a ribband of blue:
39 And it shall be unto you for a fringe, that ye may look upon it, and remember all the commandments of the Lord, and do them ; and that ye seek not after your own heart and your own eyes, after which ye use to go a whoring:
40 That ye may remember, and do all my commandments, and be holy unto your God.
The Fringes in the Bible Now More of a Cultural Thing
This was installed because of a man who was sentenced to be stoned to death; he violated the LORD’s Sabbath. The children of Israel (kind of) turned this command more into a custom and it began to represent the Israelite culture (much like the wearing of beards for men and the head covering for women does today).
Most churches and Israelites today wear the fringes but many do not and don’t believe people should wear them. The main reason for those against the fringes is because the fringes were commanded to be worn for the same reason the animal sacrifice was instituted.
Animal sacrifice was instituted because of sin!
BSM DISAGREES with that school of thought. In my days as a counselor, our organization had three stages of counseling. We had prevention, crisis, and treatment. The animal sacrifice would fall in the crisis/treatment counsel. The command to wear fringes is prevention.
This can be displayed in an example; if someone has a goal of acquiring, let’s say, a new sports car. Then they are told to carry a poster of the car with them everywhere they go so whenever they get lazy or overburdened and want to quit, they will always be reminded of the goal by looking at the poster of the sports car.
The same way it works with the fringes. It reminds those who wear it of the commandments of God, to keep them. If someone has the goal of losing weight, and when they leave their house they eat recklessly, they could wear a fringe (a food fringe). This would remind them of their diet, to stay on it!
Life and Death / Commandments and Sacrifice
The animal sacrifice reminds us all of our sins. There is an obvious difference between the two; one points to life and the other to death! Or let’s say a father says to his teenage son, these are the rules for living in the house. The son leaves the house for school and breaks some of the dad’s rules while out of the house at school.
The dad then tells the son to wear a headband and scarf, those represent and say on them, “the same rules in the house and out of the house!” The question then is really, should the son still wear the headband and scarf (fringes) after Christ had already died for his sins?
The answer is obvious with the animal sacrifice (because Christ was the actual sacrifice), but not so obvious with the fringes. This is why many Jews and Israelites today still have the practice of wearing fringes. Which actually doesn’t seem to bother anyone in the world, except…
The Do It Like Me People
The problem is only when those who practice wearing fringes suggest and command it (wearing fringes) necessary for others to do as they do. Also, when those who do not wear fringes imply to those who do that they should not. Then the friction and conflict begin!
We believe it is a line of clothing and if someone chooses to wear fringes that is their prerogative. We hope these answers help you and edify you. You can also leave a specific question you have in the comments, contact page, or by joining our newsletter!

Isaiah 66:1
Thus saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest?
