Revelation 3 Bible Study

Revelation 3 Bible StudyToday we are going to study Revelation 3, this is a continuation of chapter two where the Angel is speaking to the different churches, the message from Jesus the Christ! Get your Bible, and study along with us. What we should get from the remainder of the messages to the particular churches is vital because each of us who claim the name of Jesus is a part of one of these seven churches of God in one way or another! Let us begin…

3 And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead.

2 Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God.

God has not found the works of this church to be perfect, and has commanded they stay watchful and strengthen themselves of the works they have left. They are alive physically, but spiritually they are dead! We have this in large numbers in the world today, people who are spiritually dead, but physically and materially have a great life!

3 Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.

The Lord God tells them to hold onto what they have learned and repent, because they do not know the time in which Jesus will return. We all don’t know the time in which Jesus will return until He reveals the signs. We see some of them shaping up, but no one knows the time.

4 Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy.

5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.

6 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

Some people in the church of Sardis have undefiled garments, meaning they have good works and are worthy, and if they are able to overcome, their name will not be blotted out of the Lord’s book of life. The Lord God keeps a book, with our names written in it in Heaven (if we are blessed) and if the church of Sardis keep strong, and repent, they will not have their names blotted out of the book of life.

7 And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth;

8 I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name.

The people in the church of Philadelphia have the same opportunity everyone else has, an open door no one can shut that will give them equal access to the True and Living God, Jesus Christ. This church has a little strength and have kept the Lord’s word and have not denied His name. These are some great qualities…

Revelation 3 Bible Study

9 Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee.

Jesus is speaking to actual and physical children of Israel here. We gather this because He intends on making a group of people who call themselves “Jews” but are not (and are lying to the world); Jesus will make them come and worship before the feet of these people in the church of Philadelphia. Jesus will make the impostors know that He has loved them. Let’s get an example of what I mean here…

Malachi Chapter 1

1 The burden of the word of the Lord to Israel by Malachi.

I have loved you, saith the Lord. Yet ye say, Wherein hast thou loved us? Was not Esau Jacob’s brother? saith the Lord: yet I loved Jacob,

And I hated Esau, and laid his mountains and his heritage waste for the dragons of the wilderness.

Malachi wrote about how the Lord loved the children of Jacob, but hated the children of Esau. This is why in verse nine in Revelation chapter 3, Jesus reminds the children of Jacob, that He has loved them and will make those who say they are Jews but are not come and worship before their feet. The Lord hated Esau and laid his government and heritage a waste for the dragons of the wilderness. We’re talking dragon (reference to Satan). Paul also wrote about the love for Jacob (Israelite) and disdain for Esau in Romans chapter 9 and verse 13:

13 As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.

So let’s return back to Revelation 3, and continue on at verse 10

10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.

These spiritual and physical sons of Jacob (children of Israel) have kept the Lord’s word of patience, therefore Jesus will keep them from the hour of temptation, which will come upon the world to try people on the earth. The hour of temptation is the three and half year tribulation period. Jesus has set a way to protect His people during this time, and this is why it is vital to know the scripture, read, watch, and pray so you are not deceived! The main deception about the tribulation is that it is seven  years and also that you’d be raptured before any harm. This is not true (and we can show you why in other Bible Studies).

11 Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.

12 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.

13 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

Jesus says He will come quickly, therefore hold onto what you have so that no one takes your crown. Verse twelve gives us a mouth full if we have not been studying the Bible in times past; Jesus says to him or her that overcomes, He will make a pillar in the temple of His God, and he will not go out of it no more. Also Jesus will write on them the name of His God and the name of the city of the Father, new Jerusalem. However, this is what we want to take note on; new Jerusalem is coming down out of heaven from the Father, and Jesus will write upon them His new name! Remember, Jesus came in His Father’s name, but will reveal His new name if we overcome. If you have the ear for all of this, it is better that you hear what the angel is saying to the churches.

Finally let us read from the last angel and the last church…

14 And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;

Jesus is the beginning of the creation of God, because He is the first to go from mankind to God!

15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.

16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.

I wrote a book titled, the 7 Great Lies All Christians Believe… Even the Good Ones. We have “good” Christians and we have those who are just going through the motions, they do what is convenient for them. This is what Jesus is speaking of and speaking toward. The followers who are not hot or cold about the word, they are lukewarm. Jesus will spit these out of His mouth!

Bible Study on Revelation 3

17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:

18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.

19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.

Listen to this, Jesus says to these lukewarm people and they are lukewarm because of the good life they appear to be living today; Jesus says you say you are rich therefore you have need of nothing (including God) but what these people don’t know is that they are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked! They don’t know that God rebukes and chasten those He loves, so just because someone is poor and struggling does not mean they are not loved by God.

Jesus is only putting them through a few things so that they are ready for Him. The rich need to be counseled by God and buy gold from Him that has been tried in the fire in order for them to really be rich. Too many people today are being fooled by the play money of riches that is glorified in the media today (*there is nothing wrong with getting rich in the material possessions of this world, as long as you have not lost sight on the true riches in keeping the Word of God in Jesus name)!

20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.

22 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

If ANY MAN OR WOMAN opens the door of their mind on which Jesus is knocking on, Jesus will come in and dine with them His true food, the bread and wine (His Words)! And if you are able to overcome (and you are through Jesus Christ), you will be granted to sit with Jesus on His throne as Jesus also overcame and sits on His Father’s thrown. If you have the ear to hear what the Spirit says to the churches, hear what they say!
