Numbers Chapter 31 Summary
Chapter 31 of Numbers begins with Moses being commanded by God to perform his final act as leader of the children of Israel.
The act is to avenge the Israelites of the Midianites; after this Moses will be gathered. Israel went to war as Moses commanded, a thousand of every tribe and the priests (Levites) with their trumpets and holy instruments.
They killed all, the Midian kings, males, and even Balaam who was once called upon to curse the children of Israel. They took the women captives and their young children as they burned all the cities.
Moses was upset they kept the women and children, and Moses ordered the killing of every male child and kill every woman who has had a man (no matter how beautiful she looked).
These are the same people who caused Israel to transgress not to long ago through fornication with women.
This is why Moses was so adamant about it. Eleazar, Moses, and the elders came together to split the spoils of the war among those who actually went out and fought and the other half to the entire congregation.
They caught much spoil in this war, just among human captives, they brought back 32,000 Midianite women who didn’t have husbands.
We pray the Father to add blessings to the reading and doing of His Holy Word through His Son Jesus the Messiah. Amen!
