Numbers Chapter 1 Summary

Moses numbered each tribe by name beginning with the eldest tribe, Reuben. Simeon, Gad, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun, Joseph (Ephraim), Manasseh, Benjamin, Dan, Asher, and Naphtali followed (Levi was not numbered).

The total number of men for war was 603,550 abled bodies for war in Israel’s military. The Levites focus is on the tabernacle; pitching assembling and moving the tabernacle is their only job and no other tribes or strangers can come near.
