Numbers Chapter 1 Summary

Numbers Chapter Summaries

Into the book of Numbers we go…

Numbers the first chapter begins with God commanding Moses to take the sum of all the children of Israel age 20 and over males, who are abled bodies for war.

Moses and Aaron first gathered the noble and princes of each family’s tribe in Israel; and they were gathered by name.

Moses numbered each tribe by name beginning with the eldest tribe, Reuben. Simeon, Gad, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun, Joseph (Ephraim), Manasseh, Benjamin, Dan, Asher, and Naphtali followed (Levi was not numbered).

The total number of men for war was 603,550 abled bodies for war in Israel’s military. The Levites focus is on the tabernacle; pitching assembling and moving the tabernacle is their only job and no other tribes or strangers can come near.
