Welcome to Genesis chapter 47 summary. In this chapter, Joseph took five of his brothers and presented them to Pharaoh along with his father, Israel. Jacob met Pharaoh and blessed Pharaoh.

He told the Pharaoh that the days of his life on the earth have been few, even though he was 130 at the time, and that they were evil. Joseph gave his family the best of the land in the land of Rameses.

Genesis Chapter 47 Summary

It was at this time the famine kicked in around Egypt and the land of Canaan. As the famine took sore, the economy caved in and Joseph solved it with a taxation system. Everyone was required to give a fifth of their increase to Pharaoh, except the priests.

The money collapsed, and they ended up selling their cattle and even their land to the Pharaoh. All were now taxed by the Pharaoh as strawmen of Egypt, except the priests of the land. Jacob lived in Egypt seventeen years and died at age 147. However, Joseph promised Israel that he would bury him in Canaan and not in Egypt.
