Genesis 43: the Sons of Israel Return to Egypt

Joseph’s brothers returned to Egypt after convincing their father to allow them to go back with Benjamin. Here is how it went down: the famine was still extremely brutal all around the world. After the sons of Israel ran through the initial food they brought back at the first, they needed to get more food or die.

Judah refused to go back without Benjamin; he knew it would cause trouble if he didn’t have the baby boy Benjamin with him. Jacob was upset they even told the man they had another brother. Judah replied the man asked about their background, how would he know he would have used it against them?

Judah declared himself as bond and debt if anything happened to Benjamin; they just needed to make a decision to return. Jacob approved the second trip with his lone remaining son from Rachel, his love.

Joseph Reunites with Brother Benjamin

The brothers returned to Egypt and presented themselves before Joseph who saw Benjamin for the first time. He had his servants prepare a big meal. The sons of Israel thought they were in trouble because of the money, Joseph nevertheless had them hold their peace.

Simeon was delivered back to them also as Joseph checked on the welfare of their father (his father). He was overcome with emotions when he spoke of Benjamin, seeing him probably made him think of his mother and the time lost.

He ended the dinner by giving them gifts, but he gave Benjamin five times as much as he gave his other brothers (Genesis 43).

Principle: Faith in GOD that HE will provide. Jacob had to trust that GOD would preserve his son Benjamin and provide food as they lived through the famine in Canaan.

History: The scarcity is what brought kings into Egypt. This is how Egypt became a place of Hebrew subjugation. Mizraim was maintained by Joseph the son of Israel as an act of the MOST-HIGH to preserve life.

Prophecy: Abraham’s offspring would go into a country that is not theirs and labor 400 years; it is now being accomplished in Joseph’s advancement. Joseph is performing the arrival of his entire family into Egypt.
