Welcome to BibleStudyMinistry.com, your online Bible Study supplement source. Today, we look at Ezekiel 16, the story of Jerusalema’s unfaithfulness to their Great Creator. This study is based on verses 1 through 43. Let’s dive in.
Once again, the word of the Great Spirit came to me, Ezekiel, saying, “Son of man, make Jerusalem aware of her detestable actions. Tell her, ‘This is what the Almighty Creator says to Jerusalem: Your origin and birthplace is the land of Canaan; your father was an Amorite, and your mother a Hittite.
As for your birth, on the day you were born, your umbilical cord was not cut, you weren’t washed with water to clean you, you weren’t rubbed with salt, nor were you enwrapped. No one had compassion on you to do any of these things for you. You were thrown out into an open field, despised on the day you were born.
When I passed by you and saw you polluted in your own blood.
I said to you, while you were in your blood, ‘Live!’ Yes, I said to you while you were in your blood, ‘Live!’ I caused you to multiply like the plants of the field, and you grew and became tall, and you reached the age for adorning yourself; your breasts were formed, and your hair had grown, yet you were naked and bare.
When I passed by you again and looked upon you, indeed, your time was the time of love. So I spread my skirt over you and covered your nakedness. Yes, I swore an oath to you and entered into a covenant with you, says the Almighty Creator, and you became Mine.
Then I washed you with water; yes, I thoroughly washed off your blood from you and anointed you with oil. I also clothed you with embroidered work, gave you sandals of badger skin, clothed you with fine linen, and covered you with silk.'”
Ezekiel 16 The Story of Jerusalema’s Unfaithfulness
“I adorned you with ornaments, put bracelets on your wrists, and a chain around your neck. I placed a jewel on your forehead, earrings in your ears, and a beautiful crown on your head.
So you were adorned with gold and silver, and your clothing was made of fine linen, silk, and embroidered work. You ate fine flour, honey, and oil. You became exceedingly beautiful and prospered into a kingdom.
Your fame spread among the nations because of your beauty, for it was perfect through My splendor which I had bestowed upon you,” says the Almighty Creator.
“But you trusted in your own beauty, played the harlot because of your fame, and poured out your fornications on everyone who passed by. Whoever came by, you became his. You took some of your garments and adorned your high places with diverse colors, and played the harlot on them.
Such things shall not happen again, nor shall it be so.
You also took your beautiful jewels made of My gold and silver, which I had given you, and made for yourself male images, with which you committed whoredom. You took your embroidered garments and covered them, and you set My oil and incense before them. My food, which I provided for you, fine flour, oil, and honey with which I fed you, you set before them as a sweet aroma. That’s how it was,” says the Almighty Creator.
More than this, you have even taken your sons and daughters, whom you have borne to Me, and you have sacrificed them to these idols. Is this a small matter? Is this not enough to be considered your abominable whoredoms?
You have killed My children and offered them up to be consumed in the fires. In all your abominations and whoredoms, you have not remembered the days of your youth when you were naked and bare, polluted in your own blood. After all your wickedness—woe, woe to you!” says the Almighty Creator.
“You have built high places for yourself and made high places in every street.
You have erected your high places at the head of every road, making your beauty repulsive. Yes, you have opened your legs to everyone who passed by and multiplied your whoredoms.
Here are your receipts. You have committed fornication with the Egyptians, your neighbors who were well-endowed with flesh. And you increased your whoredoms to provoke Me to anger. Therefore, I have stretched out My hand against you to reduce your ordinary food and delivered you to those who hate you, the daughters of the Philistines, who are ashamed of your lewd conduct.
You have also played the harlot with the Assyrians because you were insatiable. Yes, you played the whore with them, and still, you could not be satisfied. You multiplied your fornication in the land of Canaan and even unto Chaldea, but it was not enough for you.
How weak is your heart!”
…says the Almighty Creator. “You do all these things, the deeds of an imperious, whorish woman. You build your high places at the head of every road, make your high places in every street, and unlike a harlot, you disregard payment. But you are like a wife who commits adultery, taking strangers instead of her husband!”
“They give gifts to all harlots, but you give gifts to all your lovers, hiring them to come to you from every side for your whoredom. You are different from other women with your whoredoms, none follows you to commit whoredom. You offer rewards, but no reward is given to you; therefore, you are contrary.
Hear the word of the Almighty Creator, you harlot!
This is what the Almighty Creator says: Your filthiness was exposed, and your nakedness was revealed through your whoredoms with your lovers. And all the idols of your abominations, and by the blood of your children that you offered to them.
Therefore, I will gather all your lovers, with whom you have taken pleasure, and all those you have loved, even those you have hated. I will gather them all around you, and I will reveal your nakedness to them, so they may see all your shame.
Yes, I will judge you like women who break wedlock and shed blood are judged. I will pour out My fury and jealousy upon you, you will have blood. I will also deliver you into their hands, and they will tear down your high places, break down your altars, strip you of your clothes, and take your precious jewels, leaving you naked and bare.
Ezekiel 16 The Story of Jerusalema’s Unfaithfulness
They will bring a company against you, stone you with stones, and thrust you through with their swords. These same lovers will burn your houses with fire and execute judgments against you in the sight of many women.
I will make you cease from playing the harlot, and you will no longer hire your lovers. So, I will cause My fury toward you to rest, and My jealousy will depart from you. I will be quiet and will no longer be angry.
Because you have not remembered the days of your youth but have angered Me in all these things. I will also recompense your ways upon your head,” says the Almighty Creator, “and your lewdness will not surpass all your abominations.”
In this very graphic parable, the Great Creator of Heaven and Earth displays how He felt about the house of Akobe (Jacob). The House of Akobe is compared to an abandoned baby girl. Her parents were the Amorites and Hittites; the Creator saw her and took the abandoned baby in.
He fed her, nourished her, and made her into one of the great beauties of the world. When she was of the age of young women, the Creator decked her out in great clothing, ornaments, gold, silver, and a captivating crown upon her head.
She was Miss Universe and became famous for it. Imagine, the days of King Solomon. However, she began to trust in her own way and played the harlot. Like a daughter sleeping with many boys and men behind her father’s back, so did she.
The House of Akobe played an imperious whorish woman.
When the Creator found out, He took back all of His belongings and left her as He found her. Naked and covered in blood and allowed her lovers to do as they wished with her.
This is captivity and oppression, she will endure because she does not remember the days of her youth and her humble beginnings. Such a graphic parable should beg not only the Christian world, but the entire world to find these people. If for nothing else, just to wag the head or give encouragement that their Creator still loves them.
Be strong and very courageous! Until next time, Power be with you!
