Daily Wisdom Bible Study – A Brother is Born for Adversity

16 Wherefore is there a price in the hand of a fool to get wisdom, seeing he hath no heart to it?

Fools do not have the mindset to go after wisdom, so there is no price they will ever come to in order to obtain wisdom!

17 A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.

This is such a beautiful scripture, especially if you’ve experienced true friendship and true brotherhood. Your harshest mistakes are not judgemental by friends, and when you are going through a hard time in life, a serious adversity, this is what a brother (or sister) was born for. They were born to be there for you!

18 A man void of understanding striketh hands, and becometh surety in the presence of his friend.

People exercise a lack of understanding when they make deals, shaking hands that get them into debt. The object in life is not to be in debt to no man except to the debt of love (as Paul wrote in the Romans). Be ye of understanding; understand the agreement you are putting yourself and your family in and avoid striking hands unless it favors all involved (especially oneself).

19 He loveth transgression that loveth strife: and he that exalteth his gate seeketh destruction.

The person who loves sin, loves breaking laws, this is obviously a person who loves strife, conflict, or friction in their life. Unfortunately, some people are drawn to this lifestyle, they love it, and they pay for it. The second half of the verse says, a person who exalts their gate or post is really seeking destruction. Remember the very memorable scripture; humble yourself to the Lord, and He will lift you up! It is better to allow God to exalt your gate, that one cannot be destroyed!

20 He that hath a froward heart findeth no good: and he that hath a perverse tongue falleth into mischief.

Froward is a person difficult to deal with, they are hard to get along with. A person with a difficult to deal with mind, they will find no good. And the person who has a perverse tongue, which is an unreasonable mouth and mind, will ultimately fall into controversy and misconduct. Froward and perverse, are a couple things or words you do not want to be!
