Chapter Summary: Deuteronomy Chapter 27 Summary

Deuteronomy Chapter 27 summary is a bit uncanny. It began with Moses doing what he customarily did, and that was to remind the people to keep all the commandments of the Lord. This was the primary job of the Lord’s chief prophet under the Old Covenant.

When Israel passed over the Jordan into the land, they were commanded to set up great stones and plaister them with the words of the law. This would be their altar. It was not made with hammers and tools, just stones plastered together.

Israel became the people of the Lord. The condition is that they have to obey the voice of their God. Moses commanded Israel to divide into two sets by tribes. One group would get on a mountain to bless the people, and the other group will rise upon the mountain to curse.

Deuteronomy Chapter 27 Summary

The chapter ends with the curses they announced.

Some examples were, cursed every man that makes a graven or molten image because it is an abomination to the Lord. Cursed is the man who disrespects his mother and father. Cursed is the man who perverts judgment against the stranger, fatherless, and widow.

Once again, cursed is anyone who lies with a beast like they would a spouse. Each curse was followed by the congregation saying “amen’ or so be it. This is the Deuteronomy chapter 27 summary.
