Kir in Moab is devastated, it is destroyed in a single night! They laid waste and brought to silence. Dibon and Bajith go up to its temple to weep at its high places. Moab wails over Nebo, as well as over Medeba.
Every head is shaved, every beard is clipped off. In its streets, they wear sackcloth; on the rooftops and in the public squares they all wail, falling down weeping in abundance. Hesbon and Elealeh cry out; their voices are heard as far as Jahaz.
The Grass is Withered, Vegetation Gone
Therefore the soldiers of Moab cry out; their souls tremble within grievously. My heart cries out over Moab; her fugitives flee as far as Zoar, as far as Eglath-Shelishiyah, crying and wailing as they go.
They ascend the slope of Luhith; they lament their destruction on the road to Horonaim. The waters of Nimrim are dried up; the grass is withered, the foliage is gone, and the vegetation has vanished away.
So they carry their wealth and riches, their belongings over the Brook of the Willows. Their outcry echoes to the border of Moab and their wailing to Eglaim is heard in Beerelim. The waters of Dimon are full of blood, but I will bring more upon Dimon.
Isaiah 15
Yes, lions on the backs of the fugitives of Moab are coming upon the remnant of the land. This is an oracle concerning Moab.
Chapter Remarks
Isaiah chapter 15 is a brief chapter concerning the oracle seen by Isaiah concerning the Moabites of Moab. Remember, the original people of Moab? Moab was one of the sons of Lot, Abraham’s nephew.
His brother, Ben-Ammi, better known as Ammon comprise the people of Ammon and Moab in ancient times. They are still there today in Jordan. The capital city of Jordan the country, is Amman.
While still a nation today, the prophetic value of Moab and Ammon stretches beyond the simple nation today. Many of the Moabites were displaced during the Assyrian conquest and the Babylonian conquest landing in the far east.
Moab Destroyed and Taken Captive
We are talking as far east as China; hence from a prophet standpoint, Moab lends itself in oracle to the entire south Asia area. In this chapter, their major cities are laid waste and brought to silence in a single night.
Their gods are toppled over, as the men shave their heads and cut their beards. They are destroyed and taken captive. Jeremiah the prophet will expound more extensively on the burden of Moab, which should make it more clear who Moab is presented as in prophecy.
One thing is for sure here in Isaiah 15, Moab is crying out for his life, his military is grievous. The nation is crying at the destruction they will face. Their plush green lands will be destroyed, everything of theirs will wither away.
Repent for the Kingdom of Elohim is Nigh
Their waters will be full of blood and those who survive will get the worst of it as lions will consume them. Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand; what we are reading, even dimly are oracles the prophet received concerning the nation of Moab.
It was written plenty of years ago and we are in the age where they will begin to unfold. Moab, be aware, the time is coming for your visitation, repent and keep the commandments of the Elohim of Israel.
