The Son of man is Lord of the Sabbath. After Jesus spoke to the people, He left them and went to a cornfield. It was the sabbath day and His disciples were hungry and they began to pluck off the ears of corn and eat them. Some Pharisees saw this in the distance and approached the LORD.
They asked Him, “Don’t you see your students are unlawfully acting on the sabbath day?” Jesus replied to them, “You don’t remember what David did when he and his men were hungry. How he entered into the house of Power and ate the shewbread; this was not a lawful thing for him to do.
The shewbread is only for the priests. Or have you not read in the law how on the sabbath days the priests profane the temple and sabbath, yet they are blameless? Nevertheless, I say unto you, right now in this place there is one greater than the temple. If you knew what it meant when said, ‘I would have mercy and not sacrifice’, you would not have condemned the guiltless.
The Sheep and the Man
Just know this, the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.” They departed went into their synagogue. When He came in there was a man with a withered hand. The Pharisees asked the LORD, “Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath days?” They were looking for ways to take Him down.
Jesus replied again, “Who is among you all who would have one of his sheep fall into a pit on the sabbath day; wouldn’t lift the poor sheep out? How much better is a man than a sheep? Therefore, it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days!”
Then Jesus commanded the man to stretch forward his hand, and he did. Just like that the man’s hand was restored whole, as his other hand. The Pharisees were angry and they stormed out of the temple. They went to hold a meeting about how they could destroy Jesus.
Nevertheless, Jesus knew it and left the synagogue. Great multitudes followed Him and He healed them all; as He did, He told them they should not tell people about Him and what He was doing. He did this so it might be fulfilled what was spoken by Esaias (Isaiah) the prophet…
It is written by Esaias:
“Behold my servant, whom I have chosen; my beloved, in whom my soul is well pleased: I will put my spirit upon Him, and He shall shew judgment to the Gentiles. He shall not strive, nor cry; neither shall any man hear His voice in the streets. A bruised reed shall He not break, and smoking flax shall He not quench, till He sends forth judgment unto victory. And in His name shall the Gentiles trust.”
After these things, some people brought Jesus someone possessed with a devil. They were also blind and dumb/mute. Jesus healed the person; it was such a marveling event in which the blind and dumb both spake and was able to see. Everyone was amazed and in a frenzy over what they’d witnessed; a few people questioned, “Isn’t this the son of David?”
When the Pharisees heard the noise and what the LORD had done (in healing the dumb blind man), they immediately railed against the works and of Jesus. “This man doesn’t cast out devils through God, but through Beelzebub, the prince of the devils,” they said among themselves.
Kingdom Divided Against Itself
Jesus knew it and said to them, “Every kingdom that is divided against itself is brought to nothing. It will be desolate, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand! If Satan casts out satan that means he is divided against himself; how can his kingdom stand?
And if I use Beelzebub to cast out devils, who do your children cast them out by? Your own children will be your judges. However, if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the Kingdom of God has come upon you.
How can anybody enter a strong man’s house and take his goods except he first binds the strong man? Then he can take the man’s goods. So I tell you, those who are not with Me are against Me; those who do not gather with me, scatter abroad.
Therefore, I tell you, all manner of sin and blasphemy will be forgiven of men. But the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost will not be forgiven of men. Whoever speaks a word against the Son of man will be forgiven, but whoever speaks against the Holy Ghost will not be forgiven.
Condemn This Generation
They will not be forgiven in this world nor in the world to come. So I say, either make the tree and its fruit good or make it corrupt. All trees will be known by their fruit, so it is with a man. Oh you generation of vipers, how can you be evil and speak of good things?
Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks; a good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings good things. The evil man, out of his evil treasure brings forward evil things. I say to you, every idle word that men speak, they will have to give account for their words in the day of judgment. By your words, you will be either justified or condemned.”
After He spoke, certain scribes and Pharisees asked Jesus, “Master will you show us a sign?” Jesus answered, “An evil and adulterous generation seek for a sign; there will be given no sign except the sign of the prophet Jonas (Jonah).
One Greater Than Jonas & Solomon
As Jonas was in the belly of the whale three days and three nights, so will the Son of man be in the heart of the earth, three days and three nights. The men of Nineveh will rise in judgment along with this generation and they will condemn this generation. Why? They repented at the preaching of Jonas, and see, One greater than Jonas is here.
The queen of the south will rise up in the judgment with this generation. She will condemn this generation also. Why, because she came from the furthest parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and see One greater than Solomon is here in this generation.
Here this, when an unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walks through dry places looking for rest. He doesn’t find it, then says to himself, ‘I will return to my house from where I came out’. When he returns he finds it empty, swept, decorated, and cleaned.
My Family are Those Who Do the Will of My Father
He goes and finds seven other spirits, they are even more wicked than himself and they enter in and dwell there. The last state of that man is worse than the first. Just as in that case, so it will be to this wicked generation.”
As Jesus concluded, his mother and brothers stood without hoping to speak with Him. Someone said to Jesus, “Your mom and brothers are outside and want to talk to you.” Jesus replied, “Who is my mother huh? Who are my brothers?”
He stretched His hands forward towards His disciples and said, “See my mother and my brothers! Whoever will do the will of My Father who is in Heaven, the same is My brother, sister, and mother!” Everyone was astonished!
