1 Samuel Chapter 16 Summary: Chapter Summaries

Welcome to 1 Samuel chapter 16 Summary, a chapter that will introduce a very important figure as it pertains to scripture and the history of the house of Jacob. The chapter began as God asked Samuel to stop wasting tears over Saul.

The Almighty God had rejected him as captain over His people, it was time for him to move on. The Almighty had already moved on and told Samuel where to go to anoint the next king over His people. He was sent to Jesse’s house, the man Jesse was a Bethlehemite.

At this point, Samuel was scare of Saul, however, the Creator told him it would be alright. He came to Jesse’s village and everyone there was concerned to have a prophet come pay them a visit.

1 Samuel Chapter 16 Summary

In those days if a prophet came to visit you, it was largely because there was a problem. However, Samuel told them his mission and they moved forward. Samuel had Jesse present all of his sons so that the anointing from Most-High could commence the next king over His people.

Samuel thought the first son would be the king because he had a stature of the current king Saul, nice and tall. The Creator gave Samuel, as well as us all today, some valuable insight on how He views things and people.

The Almighty said to Samuel, don’t look at outward appearances of men, instead look at the mind (heart), as the Almighty does. They kept calling sons in until they were just about out; they went through seven sons. Finally, they had to go get the youngest son, David.

David Presented, Handsome and Ruddy

The scripture says he was ruddy, beautiful and handsome to look upon. The Almighty had Samuel anoint him as the next king over His people. David was anointed and the spirit of the Almighty came upon him from that day forward.

Nevertheless, unfortunate for Saul, an evil spirit came upon him from that day on and it troubled him all his days. The evil spirit was so bad for Saul, his servants sought a good harp player to sooth the evil spirit when it got really bad on the king.

Of all places to find a harp player, they sought David, the future king of the Almighty’s people. The son of Jesse found himself in the king’s court. David was sent and he also became one of Saul’s armor bearers.

Whenever David played, Saul was refreshed and well, and this is the summary of 1st Samuel chapter 16. Glory to Honor.

Saul really got a case of the heebie jeebies later in this chapter, its not a coincidance that Saul was told by his staff to seek out someone who can play the lyre to ease saul frights’ symptoms- God is working behind the scene’s clearly!

    • Hey Melanie, thank you for your comment; Saul was absolutely with the heebie-jeebies, this is how the LORD works in the background. Praise God for you, God bless!
