Untold World History, Cyrus the Great and the Judahites Part 2

Welcome back to part two of the untold world history of Cyrus the great and the Judahites. Continuing from part one, we will continue. Cyrus the great did something recorded in the annals of history, perhaps, from a biblical standpoint, that may have cemented his “greatness.”

Cyrus the II sent the Judahites back to Jerusalem to rebuild their house to their God. The Hebrew historians and scribes kept records, documenting who went back at Cyrus’s proclamation. The children of the province that went up out of the captivity that Nebuchadnezzar carried into Babylon, were listed in the book of Ezra in chapter two.

Men such as Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Seraiah, Reelaiah, Mordecai, were part of the return. However, when the number was tallied together, it is recorded the whole congregation was forty-two thousand and three hundred (42,300).

Horses, Mules, Camels, and Donkeys

This number didn’t include their servants and maids, handmaid’s, which included in and of themselves, seven thousand three hundred and thirty-seven (7,337). They did not go empty handed also. It is recorded they had 736 horses, 245 mules, 435 camels, and 6,720 donkeys.

Cyrus proclaimed and assisted heavily in orchestrating all of this. According to some historians, the Judahites considered Cyrus the great as a type of Messiah because of his efforts in helping their nation and people.

With this proclamation, the Kingdom of Judah was on its way back, and perhaps this time, they would be able to do things correctly! As the Medians took controlling power from the Persians, the new rulers were just as benevolent towards the Judahites as Cyrus was.

Daniel Becomes Darius Closest Advisor

As outlined in a previous chapter, Darius I took over Babylon as king over Persia and Medes. He also was extremely benevolent towards the Judean people, as Daniel the prophet, was his closest and most trusted advisor and official.

Darius I, the great, is known as the third king of the Persian Achaemenid Empire, ruled from 522 BCE to 486 BCE, approximately 36 years. In his Babylonian kingdom, according to Hebrew history, Darius established 120 princes to look over the entire kingdom.

This was only in Babylon. Darius’ kingdom expanded to Egypt, West Asia (what is known as the middle east today), the Caucasus (a region at the border of Europe and Asia, near the Black and Caspian Sea).

Balkans, Central Asia, and Libya

The Caucasus houses the nation’s, known today as Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Iran, Russia, and Turkey. Darius, as was Nebuchadnezzar and Cyrus, were titled, great king, king of kings, and king of lands or nations.

They presided over much and had conquered a vast amount of land. He reigned over the Balkan lands, central Asia, and Libya (known as Africa today). In Babylon, the prophet Daniel was his main “satrap (governor).”

Darius, like Cyrus and Nebuchadnezzar, organized his empire by dividing the kingdom into provinces. He established it with a viceroy or vice regent over each province. The Persians called the Viceroys, satraps, and the satrap would govern the land in the power of the king, Daniel for Darius in this case.

The King Owns It All

In the Babylonian province, Darius propelled 120 princes, and three presidents over the princes’. One of the three presidents or governors was Daniel. He was the Judahite, who was preferred above all the presidents and princes because he had an excellent spirit in him.

The king nearly made Daniel second in charge over his entire kingdom, and not only just in Babylon. The other two presidents and the 120 princes didn’t like this promotion Daniel received and sought to find a way to take him down.

They attempted to take him down through his devotion to his Lord and God of the Heavenly Kingdom. Daniel was delivered from the staged coup. This moved Darius to proclaim (and make a decree) throughout his kingdom that everyone should tremble and fear before the God of Daniel.

Darius Convinced that the Lord is Lord

He decreed this in every dominion in his kingdom. This was so because of the way the Lord delivered Daniel from the presidents and princes. Darius was convinced that the Lord was and is the living God, whose kingdom wouldn’t end and His dominion will be forever. Keep in mind, this is a documented king in the earth.
