Welcome to Genesis chapter 10 summary. This chapter details the generations after the flood, specifically of Noah and his sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. The generations of Noah’s sons outlined began with the sons of Japheth.
Japheth had seven sons, two were mentioned for their lineage sake in this chapter, Gomer, and Javan. An interesting note about the sons of Japheth is written, and it said, “By these were the islands of the Gentiles divided into their lands.”
The reason this is interesting will be shared later. The chapter then moves onto the children of Ham. Ham had four sons, Cush, Mizraim, Phut, and Canaan. Cush was the ruling family as Cush is credited for establishing a kingdom through the man, Nimrod.
The Importance of Shem’s Family…
Ham’s early family lineage description ends with, “These are the sons of Ham.” Onto the last son, Shem, who had five sons, and he’s also known as the father to the children of Eber. Shem’s family is important because they are the family, in which the focal family of the Bible is all about.
In Shem’s family description, they also conclude by noting, “These are the sons of Shem.” Shem and Ham weren’t given an additional name as with Japheth, who was also called a Gentile. This is important as we read through the Bible, especially in the New Testament.
The world is repopulated by the sons of Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. The chapter ends by letting us know these are the nations divided in the earth after the flood, as well as these, are the sons of the families of Noah. This is Genesis chapter 10, summary.
