Would You Enjoy Living in a Modern Day Monarch ?

In today’s world, it is unthinkable, unfathomable, and even undesirable for someone to fancy living in a monarch. It is just an unpopular idea. Most people in the Western world have never even heard nor do they understand what a monarch is.

If it wasn’t for storytelling or historical movies and books like the Tudors, the life of Henry the Eighth of England, and his wives drama, or something like the Game of Thrones, even the recent Netflix movie, the Crown, we’d be in the dark about kings and lords (especially in the western world).

Monarchs are not altogether a bad thing, we have to understand that in times past most monarchs were disguised dictatorships. Dictatorships are like monarchs, except they are run by evil, unjust, obsessive rulers. Obviously, this will leave a distasteful flavor in the mouth of anyone living in a monarchy or dictatorship, as well as for those living outside of it (as people do in the west).

Royal Houses, Good or Bad?

We simply have to realize that the problem was and is not necessarily the king, his kingdom, or his form of operation of government. Instead, the problem falls on human nature. Humans and how we function are the problem in these kingdoms.

When we read about the kingdom in the Bible, the brain typically will and automatically flip to a democracy style of a kingdom. This is because we in the west are used to the idea of democracy thanks to the worldwide spread of “democracy” around the world.

Reading the Bible, the typical person automatically forgets that Jesus primarily talked about His coming kingdom and the kingdom of God. Jesus taught about the coming kingdom of God since the days of Adam.

The Royal House of Jesus

In the Old Testament, Jesus attempted to establish His coming kingdom and government with the children of Israel, see Exodus chapter 19:

6 And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.

In another example, Jesus spoke about His coming government here on the earth on David’s throne in Isaiah chapter 9.

6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.

Coming Royal Monarch Not Favored?

In fact, after Jesus was baptized during His ministry on the earth, He began to go about preaching the gospel (His coming Kingdom). Nearly everything Jesus spoke about was about the coming kingdom of God.

It may have been overshadowed by His many miracles, rebuking religious Pharisees, and His horrific death. Yet,  90% of His speech was about the Kingdom of God (not the democracy of God). Kingdoms are governed by the king of the Kingdom, and because this will be the case in Jesus’ kingdom, it is important to understand kings and lords.
