Chapter Summaries: 2 Kings Chapter 1 Summary

2 Kings Chapter 1 Summary

The second book of Kings begins in Samaria with events taking place after the death of Ahab, king of Samaria (the ten tribes). The first event was the rebellion of Moab against Israel (Samaria).

Ahaziah, Ahab’s son was ill and he sent his officials to ask of Baalzebub the god of Ekron if he’d recover from his illness. God quickly intervened with Elijah the prophet. He gave him the blunt news that Ahaziah would not recover but would indeed die.

This was so because he chose to ask false gods of Ekron instead of the Lord God of Israel. Then Ahaziah sent groups of 50 men and a captain to detain Elijah, who said Ahaziah would not recover but indeed die.

Chapter 1 Summary, 2 Kings

Elijah rained fire from heaven and killed two groups of the 50, the third group’s captain came humbly. This allowed the angel of the Lord to let Elijah go with them to see the ailing king.

Elijah told Ahaziah the same word, this time, face to face; “is it not because there is no God in Israel to inquire of His word?” Therefore, Elijah told the king, he will certainly die. He died and his brother Jehoram ruled in his place because Ahaziah had no children.

This is chapter one of the second Kings summary.
