Samuel was attempting to bring all of Israel back to the Lord their God.
He tells them simply in I Samuel 7:
Return Unto the Lord with all Your Hearts
3 And Samuel spake unto all the house of Israel, saying, If ye do return unto the Lord with all your hearts, then put away the strange gods and Ashtaroth from among you, and prepare your hearts unto the Lord, and serve him only: and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.
This message is still for those Christians or non Christians trying to find their way home today. Return to God with all your mind. Put away strange gods such as Ashtaroth (modern day Easter).
Prepare your hearts to serve the God of Israel only, and God will also deliver today, all your enemies no matter what or who it is. It begins with turning to the Lord, repenting, and walking strong with the Lord your God, even Jesus.
Return unto the Lord with all your hearts.
