1st Samuel Chapter 3 Summary

1st Samuel Chapter 3 Summary

Chapter three of first Samuel begins with Samuel serving the Lord before or under the guidance of the elder Eli, and the scriptures note that there were no open visions from God in those days.

At times of wickedness, God stops dealing and revealing messages with people, even with people who are in charge of things.

The Word of the Lord was precious in those days. This helps explain what happened next.

Samuel was asleep and he heard someone call his name. It was God, but being new to hearing the voice of the Lord, Samuel thought it was elder Eli.

The scripture says that Samuel did not yet know the Lord, neither was the word of God revealed to him at this point of his life. Interesting.

God called Samuel three times, and elder Eli figured God was calling Samuel, and told Samuel how to answer the Lord the next time he hears Him call.

Elder Eli said to answer the Lord by saying, “Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.” Samuel did just that, and God began His relationship with Samuel.

What God revealed to Samuel was very tough news. God revealed to Samuel some very grave news for Israel, and especially grave for the elder Eli as well as for his house.

God revealed what He was about to do in Israel, and how it will make the ears of everyone who hears it, to tingle.

1st Samuel Chapter 3 Summary

God disclosed to Samuel saying, “I’m going to punish Eli because of his sons transgressions, but more so because of how Eli did not restrain them.”

When Samuel awoke the next morning, Samuel felt weird the next morning, he tried to avoid elder Eli, but he was forced to confess to him the vision.

Elder Eli knew what he had coming so he wasn’t surprised. He took it in stride, or on the chin.

The chapter ends with Israel realizing that God had established Samuel as a prophet in Israel, by the word of the Lord.
