Welcome to BibleStudyMinistry.com (BSM), today we’re taking a study on Revelation 8, continuing our study of the book of Revelations. Please follow along reading the scriptures below. We begin at verse one:
1 And when he had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour.
2 And I saw the seven angels which stood before God; and to them were given seven trumpets.
After the seventh seal was opened the heavens were silenced for about a half an hour, and the seven angels that stand before God were given seven trumpets! This is why the High Sabbath known as the Memorial of the Blowing of Trumpets is very important! These trumpets represent some very vast things when it comes to events that will happen in the future, including the coming of the King.
Let’s continue reading Revelation 8 and verse three and four:
3 And another angel came and stood at the altar, having a golden censer; and there was given unto him much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne.
4 And the smoke of the incense, which came with the prayers of the saints, ascended up before God out of the angel’s hand.
Much prayer by the saints are being offered before God and the angel put it with incense to go up along with their prayers! During the time of these trumpets being blown, there will be many prayers by the saints of God, but there will also be many prayers by those ignorant of what’s going on because they earth will be the least favorite planet to be on if you are not in the place of safety. Let us continue…
5 And the angel took the censer, and filled it with fire of the altar, and cast it into the earth: and there were voices, and thunderings, and lightnings, and an earthquake.
6 And the seven angels which had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound.
The angels are now about to sound off with their trumpets. An event will occur with the sound of each trumpet and it will be a drastic event. These events are coming from the God of Israel as He prepares to invade this earth. All the movies playing now don’t give us a fair warning of what is about to take place here on the earth. The unfortunate thing is that many “saints” have bought the false teaching that they will be rapture off the earth.
Revelation 8 verse 7
7 The first angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up.
The Lord is beginning His onslaught of the earth. The first thing destroyed happens to be a third of the grass and trees. Let’s keep in mind, humans need trees and grass for life. This is why on the sixth seal (read in a previous chapter study) God had to seal His servants because now God Almighty is going to invade this earth! And each trumpet blast announces something God is doing to the earth before He lands on the earth!
8 And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood;
The Second Trumpet Sounded
The second trumpet brought in a great burning mountain thrown into the sea or waters, and a third part of the waters became blood. Oxygen and now water has been hampered with the first two trumpet blast. This is how you war!
Now let us imagine this with what we have; verses eight says and as it were, which does not mean it was a literal mountain being cast (or thrown) into the sea. However, after the earthquakes we read about in verse five, a volcano could have erupted and the sea or water level surrounding it would have rose. The hot lava could represent the blood that John described in verse eight.
We can use our imagination for added help in depicting the events we’re reading but let us not use our own imagination as fact. It is only to help us get a good idea of what is happening in these verses. The Word of God stands, not me and not you!
Revelation 8 verse 9
9 And the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, died; and the third part of the ships were destroyed.
In addition to hurting the sea and waters, a third of all the sea creatures and a third of the ships in the sea were destroyed!
10 And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters;
11 And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter.
The third trumpet now has affected man’s drinking water. It was made bitter as wormwood and many men died of the waters because they were made bitter. The war is getting serious. The oxygen supply was hampered, the water transit and sea creatures, and the drinking water in a third of the world has been made bitter to death. And people are not reading the Revelation of Jesus Christ to prepare themselves for this… WHY?
The Fourth Angel Sounded
12 And the fourth angel sounded, and the third part of the sun was smitten, and the third part of the moon, and the third part of the stars; so as the third part of them was darkened, and the day shone not for a third part of it, and the night likewise.
When the fourth angel sounded its’ trumpet, a third of the sun, moon, and stars were hit in that they shined only a third part of the day. The sun shines typically half the day depending on your geographical location on the earth. 12 hours on and 12 hours off, typically, if you live in Chicago would be the ratio of having sunlit hours.
However, after the fourth trumpet, we are looking at 8 hours of daylight, 8 hours of night, and 8 hours of something unknown, where we do not know if it is day or night out. This is some weird science. It reminds me of Zechariah chapter 14
6 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the light shall not be clear, nor dark:
7 But it shall be one day which shall be known to the Lord, not day, nor night: but it shall come to pass, that at evening time it shall be light.
Woe, Woe, Woe…
I cannot comment more on this as it is too strange and large for me to really understand how this will happen (but it will). Feel free to add comments below on what you believe this is (We’re back to chapter 8 in Revelation)
13 And I beheld, and heard an angel flying through the midst of heaven, saying with a loud voice, Woe, woe, woe, to the inhabiters of the earth by reason of the other voices of the trumpet of the three angels, which are yet to sound!
With the first four trumpet blast, we may believe this earth has been hit pretty bad, but the angel kindly informs us that this is nothing compared to the final three trumpets that are prepared to blow next. We will get into those when we study the next chapter!

my pastor is teaching from the book of revelation very helpful.
That is so great Angela, praise God for you and your pastor, blessings and continue in the grace of God!
This tells me that according to God’s response, our prayers are dangerous and not in vain if they’re coming from the right place (a godly heart)
This encourages me to pray more knowing that God actively hears, responds and protects us!
Thank you
That’s absolutely right Sis Elaine; GOD bless you and keep you. Pray often, sincerely, and with the purpose for GOD’s will.
