2 Kings Chapter 8 Summary: Chapter Summaries

2 Kings chapter 8 summary began with Elisha as he announced another famine in the land that would last for seven years. Elisha warned the woman, whose son he had healed and brought back to life, to get out of Israel because of the famine to come.

The woman did as she was told and went and dwelled in the land of the Philistines for seven years. When she came back someone had taken over her house and land.

So, quite naturally, she put her complaint before the king of Israel. The king was busy trying to get the “inside scoop” on all the great things the man of God, Elisha, had done. He sought the information from Elisha’s servant Gehazi.

2 Kings Chapter 8 Summary

While with the king, Gehazi pointed out the women whose son Elisha had resurrected. From there, the king restored her land and all that she owned. Elisha was then sent to Syria to pay a visit to king Benhadad, who was ill.

Elisha informed the king’s second in line that the king would recover from the illness he was suffering from at that time. However, Elisha added, the king would still die.

Elisha cried because the “second in line” to the king of Syria, a man named Hazael, would become vicious and terrible towards Israel. He would even be a brutal as to rip babies right from the mother’s womb.

Hazael, the second to the king of Syria, could not believe what Elisha was telling him about himself! He couldn’t see himself so vicious, or could he?

Hazael took the message to the current king of Syria and told him that he would recover from his illness, however, while alone in the room, he took a thick cloth and dipped it in water and killed the current king (Benhadad).

Well, we guess he was as vicious as Elisha was shown by God.

The chapter concluded with Israel and Judah and the drama around the kingship and all their petty games. We could not forget their behavior also, as they did evil before the LORD their God.

In this, the nation of Edom revolted against Judah, and Libnah did also. We were introduced to Athaliah, the daughter of Omri, king of Israel, who was very evil in Judah.

This is the summary of 2 Kings chapter 8, glory to Yah.

In the Old Testament, God always has his close prophets he uses to impress upon the peoples that there is one true God and when he acts and speaks through the prophets, it is always His Word that is fulfilled and unfailing. He is glorified and steering his peoples to be just and follow Him.
