Today’s question is:

My question is in regards to Proverbs 25:2, coupled with 2 Timothy 3:7. I’m wondering where you stand on this subject?

This is a great question; let’s see what each scripture says. Proverbs 25:2 says, “It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.” And 2 Timothy 3:7 says, “Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.”

In context, Proverbs 25 was a list of wise sayings written by Solomon or someone in his cabinet, so to speak. Whereas in 2nd Timothy, this is a letter from Paul the Apostle written to Timothy. Paul wrote concerning the church and the last days how perilous times will come.

He describes how people will be, having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof. That verse alone is on some higher-level stuff. Paul was a Levite in heart, a Benjamite in the flesh, and a man totally dedicated to the law to the letter.

A Form of Godliness

It wasn’t until he was blinded that he crossed over to becoming a priest after the order of Melchizedek. When he states that men will have a form of godliness, he is speaking to the nature that men will present as if they are gods.

Nevertheless, it will be only a presentation; this means the true power of God, these men and women will leave behind. That’s where verse seven comes to play; because they leave out the power of God, they are ever learning but never able to come to true knowledge of the Most-High.

To most people’s dismay, God is not an equal opportunity employer in a sense. He employs those who are constantly seeking, searching, and knocking for His truth, way, and light. Now to connect this to Proverbs 25:2 – God requires us to seek, search, knock, and diligently go after Him.

Concealed Mysteries of God

We must seek His power, which is really in the fruits of the spirit, in faith, and in keeping His commandments. Therefore, it is God’s glory to conceal the mysteries of God in similitudes, parables, metaphors, etc., but it is the honor of kings and queens, as in us, to search out these secret things.

Truth be told, most of these mysteries are sealed away in books; we have to search them out. This way we get the power and not just the form of Godliness, and we aren’t ever learning. In fact, we come to the knowledge of His truth and receive His peace and happiness that never goes out!

This is our take on this and we appreciate the question.

I pray this has been edifying in the name of the Son of God.
