Two Trumpets of Silver for Calling the Assembly Numbers 10

Two Trumpets of Silver for Calling the Assembly shown in Numbers 10: The MOST-HIGH called Moses with instructions on making silver trumpets. HE commanded for the people to have someone make two trumpets out of hammered silver. These would be used to call the people together and to give the sign for moving the camp (from one location to another).

If both trumpets were blown, everyone was to meet with Moses and Aaron at the entrance of the tabernacle of the congregation. But if just one was blown, only the twelve princes were required to come together.

They were also commanded to give a signal on a trumpet when it was time to break camp. The first blast would be the signal for the tribes camped on the east side, and the second blast would be the signal for those on the south.

Systems for Alarm and Announcements

We can see the ALMIGHTY had a very organized system of communicating with HIS people. The system would be comparable to our modern-day fire drills, evacuation, etc. Continuing, but when Moses wanted everyone to come together, the priests would sound a different signal.

They would blow the trumpet, but they wouldn’t sound the alarm. The priests of Aaron’s family were the ones to blow the trumpets, and this legislation would never change.

Numbers 10

And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

2 Make thee two trumpets of silver; of a whole piece shalt thou make them: that thou mayest use them for the calling of the assembly, and for the journeying of the camps.

3 And when they shall blow with them, all the assembly shall assemble themselves to thee at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

4 And if they blow but with one trumpet, then the princes, which are heads of the thousands of Israel, shall gather themselves unto thee.

5 When ye blow an alarm, then the camps that lie on the east parts shall go forward.

6 When ye blow an alarm the second time, then the camps that lie on the south side shall take their journey: they shall blow an alarm for their journeys.

7 But when the congregation is to be gathered together, ye shall blow, but ye shall not sound an alarm.

8 And the sons of Aaron, the priests, shall blow with the trumpets; and they shall be to you for an ordinance for ever throughout your generations.

9 And if ye go to war in your land against the enemy that oppresseth you, then ye shall blow an alarm with the trumpets; and ye shall be remembered before the Lord your God, and ye shall be saved from your enemies.

10 Also in the day of your gladness, and in your solemn days, and in the beginnings of your months, ye shall blow with the trumpets over your burnt offerings, and over the sacrifices of your peace offerings; that they may be to you for a memorial before your God: I am the Lord your God.

Whenever the children of Israel would go into battle against an enemy attacking their land, this is the use of the trumpets. They would give a warning signal with the trumpets first. Then the Sovereign LORD, would hear it and rescue them.

In addition, during the days of Israel’s gladness, their solemn days, and in the beginnings of their months, trumpets should be blown. They blew the trumpets over their burnt offerings, sacrifices, and peace offerings.

This way, they will be a memorial before your ALMIGHTY POWER; AHAYAH the LORD our POWER.
