They are Foolish and Know Not the Way of the Lord: Run to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem and you will see and know. Go ahead and search in the broad places of the city if you can find a man.

Just find one man that executes judgment and seeks the truth and I will pardon the city. Although they say, “As sure as the LORD ALMIGHTY lives,” they only swear falsely. O LORD, do not Your eyes look for truth?

You struck them but they felt no pain; You finished them off, but they refused to accept discipline. They’ve made their faces harder than a stone, they refuse to repent. Then I said, “They are only the poor; they have played the fool.

Send in the Lion, Wolf, and Leopard

They are foolish and know not the way of the LORD ALMIGHTY, neither the justice of their POWER. I will go to the powerful and speak to them. For sure they know the way of the Sovereign LORD; they know the justice of their Elohim.

Nevertheless, they also were with one accord and had broken the yoke and torn off the chains. Well, a lion from the forest will strike them down and a wolf from the desert will ravage them.

This will be followed by a leopard who will lie in wait near their cities; everyone who ventures out will be torn to pieces. All this is for their rebellious acts, which are many, and their unfaithful deeds are numerous.

Well-Fed Lust-Driven Stallions

How shall I pardon thee for this; why should I forgive you? Your children have forsaken Me and sworn by gods that are not gods. I satisfied their needs, still, they committed adultery as they assembled themselves at the houses of prostitutes.

They are like well-fed lusty stallions, each neighing after his neighbor’s wife. Will I not visit and punish them for these things,” declares the Sovereign LORD? “Should I not avenge Myself on such a nation as this?

Go up through her vineyards and ravage them, but do not finish them off; strip off her braches because they do not belong to the LORD of Hosts. The houses of Israel and Judah have been terribly treacherous against Me,” says the LORD of Hosts.

A Distant Nation is On the Way

They have lied about the LORD and said, “He will not do anything; He will not harm us and we will not see the sword or the famine. The prophets are nothing but wind because the LORD’s Word is not within them. Therefore, let their own words be done to them.”

Therefore this is what the LORD ALMIGHTY of Hosts says, “Because you have spoken this word, I will make My words a fire in your mouth and these people the wood it will consume.

Behold, I am bringing a distant nation against you, O house of Israel,” says the Sovereign LORD. They are an established nation, an ancient nation, a nation whose language you do not know and whose speech you do not understand.

The Sword Will Devour Your Fortified Cities

Their quivers are like open graves; they are all mighty warriors. This nation will devour your harvest and food; they will consume your sons and daughters. This nation will eat up your flocks and herds; they will feed on your vines and fig trees.

With the sword, they will destroy the fortified cities in which you trust. However, in those days,” says the LORD, “I will not make a full end of you.”

Chapter Remarks

The chapter (Jeremiah 5) started out with a painful truth. This truth was based on the command from the LORD ALMIGHTY for the prophet to search all of Jerusalem. Go through all the streets and see if there is anyone who executes justice and seeks the truth.

If there was just one, the Sovereign LORD would have pardoned the offenses of Jerusalem. Judah and Jerusalem had become just as Sodom and Gomorrah.

Recall when Abraham pleaded with the LORD concerning the number of righteous that could have pardoned the cities? Abraham got down to ten before the LORD ALMIGHTY left off speaking with him.

Reevaluate What is Righteous

The next morning he looked outside of his window and saw Sodom and Gomorrah up in flames. This means they did not have ten righteous people in all the city; hence why only Lot and his family were delivered. They were only delivered for Abraham’s sake.

Fast forward, the children of Israel need to produce just one righteous man AND COULDN’T. This is alarming, it really should make us all reevaluate what we consider righteous. The stiff-heartedness of the children of Israel was also alarming.

Lust-driven stallions were in reference to the fornication and adultery this people live after and for. The demographics of people who commit the most adultery are pretty revealing.

How Do You Treat the Creator Treacherously?

The children of Judah and Israel were being rebuked, punished, afflicted, and altogether distressed. They ignored these pain signs like a man ignoring the engine and oil lights on his car dash. There was no remedy but to send in the lion, the wolf, and the leopard.

The houses of Judah and Israel have been horribly treacherous against their Elohim are have been unrepentant till this day. We know how it is to be betrayed; it is not a welcoming feeling. The Israelites betrayed the LORD ALMIGHTY daily to His face.

They refuse to be corrected and adhere to their own prophets. The house of Judah and Israel love the stranger and the strange gods. They now find themselves in a sticky situation in every nation they find themselves in as captives.
