What Bible Study topic, subject, or chapter would you like to learn in more detail? We are opening those again now that the Father is once again, sending His Spirit to gather His saints once again for the last time; we feel the need to address questions.

Many of the questions are not asked clearly, but we’ll do our best to answer them as well as we can.

Should Christians live together? Is Listening to Secular Music Ok?

The first question appears to be Christians and not a married couple that happens to be Christians. If it is the former, then this question appears to be in reference to Acts chapter 4 from verses 32 to 35.

The apostles and disciples began to build communities where there was a commonwealth in which people gave freely of their possessions so that all would benefit from them equally. It is recorded that the multitude was of one heart and soul, no one said anything was their own but they all had things in common. It’s like living as one big family with all things common.

No one lacked as many who possessed lands or houses sold them and brought the price of the things sold to the apostles to distribute to every man according to their need. This was when we were introduced to Joses, surnamed Barnabus, from the tribe of Levi from the country of Cyprus.

True Gospel, True Religion

So are Christians supposed to live together in these types of communities? They can if it so be their desire. For instance, if I’m a mega multimillionaire with twelve houses. If I become stricken in my mind by the true gospel and true religion (as in James 1:27), I may give eleven of my homes to the apostles and keep one for myself.

The homes would be used commonly by people in need under the apostle’s care and management. I can still keep my one house, which is for me only. I pray this makes sense.

It is the same concept of giving to the poor; I can give all or half or any percentage of my earnings to assist the poor, needy, fatherless, and widow. It is to each individual’s discretion.

Secular Music, Is It Okay?

The second question asks if listening to secular music is okay? The scripture says to guard or keep your heart with all diligence (Proverbs 4:23). Satan works by suggesting things to us.

If you follow any modern science, you know the things you consume through the five senses become you by becoming a habit. What you consistently view (sight), eat (taste), touch (feel), smell (breathe), and listen to (hear), over time makeup who you are.

Listening to secular music unconsciously can be dangerous because some songs are great to the ear in sound and rhythm, but disastrous in words. Make sure the song is not misleading you by encouraging you to do evil or putting you in a wrong or negative mindset.

Control the Environment

I used to change the words of songs because the beat or melody was so great I couldn’t stop hearing it. I’d change the words so as it is played in my head, I can control what my mind receives. For instance, instead of “You can find me in the club…” I’d replace, “You can find me teaching the Word…”

Certainly, if you have children, have your children know what they are listening to because we’ve witnessed people catch the same spirit at a secular concert they caught at a “Christian” concert. Music attempts to catch our emotions and move us to do something about them.

It’s no wonder people make love or get intimate to love longs, get depressed with depressing songs, and get violent or hyped-up to violent get hype songs. At the end of the day, you and I are still responsible for our emotions and actions regardless of what stimulus activated us.

I pray this edifies in the name of Christ!

I pray this has been edifying in the name of the Son of God.
