Revelation Chapter 5 Bible Study

Welcome to BSM, today we are going to study Revelation chapter 5, this is a continuation of chapter four where we were getting a pretty good description of Jesus the Christ! Get your Bible, and study along with us. I believe we’ll pick up some very interesting concepts and facts from Revelation 5

1 And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals.

Right out the gate, John saw the One on the throne with a book in His right hand. It had writings inside but was sealed with seven seals. This may be literally speaking, but we definitely know it is speaking spiritually!

2 And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof?

3 And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon.

One of the angels looking on yelled with a strong loud voice asking, who is worthy enough to open the book and reveal the seven seals within the book. The angel was asking this among men and to the Father. And we can get a few examples from the scripture to support this. In the book of Isaiah, first in chapter 63:

And I looked, and there was none to help; and I wondered that there was none to uphold: therefore mine own arm brought salvation unto me; and my fury, it upheld me.

There was none to help as the LORD looked down among men, therefore His own arm brought salvation unto me. The Father’s own arm is Jesus who sits at the right hand. Jesus the Christ upheld the Father and the Creation. Let’s look at it from Isaiah chapter 59:

16 And he saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no intercessor: therefore his arm brought salvation unto him; and his righteousness, it sustained him.

God saw that there was no man clean enough to be the intercessor between man and God, therefore His arm brought salvation to Him, and Jesus righteousness sustained the Creation.

So when we go back to Revelation chapter 5 and look at verses two and three

2 And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof?

3 And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon.

We have a better understanding that no man in heaven or earth was able to open the book or even look into it; it is speaking that no man was able to deliver this creation and intercede between God and man. We’ll continue at verse 4 of Revelation 5!

4 And I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look thereon.

5 And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.

As John saw that no man was worthy to open the book, he began to cry heavily. He was crying because he saw what was going to happen to him and you and I if no one was able to open this book. We were all going to die because of the sin Adam began in the garden. However, an elder came to John and told him not to weep because the Lion of the Tribe of Judah, the Root of David, He has prevailed to open the book and reveal the seven seals to the world.

6 And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.

7 And he came and took the book out of the right hand of him that sat upon the throne.

John saw a Lamb stand up, and it looked like it had been slain, with the Lamb was seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent to go throughout the entire earth. The Lamb came and took the book out of the right hand of Him that sat on the throne.

8 And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints.

9 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;

When the Lamb took the book from the One who sat on the throne, the 24 elders, the 4 beasts, all fell down before the Lamb, and they sang and new song. The words of this song are most eye opening… the song sang, you are worthy to take the book and open the seals, because you were slain and has redeemed us to God by your own blood. You did this for every person, every language, every people, and every nation.

10 And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.

And Jesus the Christ has made us unto our God, kings and priest and we will rule on the earth! WHAT?!? Not Heaven? This could be a Head scratcher for sure, and it is no typo; we are going to rule on the earth, with Jesus the Messiah and eventually with the Father!

11 And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands;

Look who and how many were around the throne and the beasts and 24 elders; the number was HUGE! Billions and Trillions… seems like!

12 Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.

And they were all shouting, “Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, riches, wisdom, strength, honor, glory, and blessings!”

13 And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.

14 And the four beasts said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshipped him that liveth for ever and ever.

The chapter closes out by saying every creature in heaven and earth was heard blessing God forever and ever!
