Matthew Chapter 3 Summary: Chapter Summaries

Matthew chapter 3 summary began with a description of events that took place in the days of John the Baptist. John preached in the wilderness for men to repent for the sake of the kingdom of heaven being at hand.

He was the voice in the wilderness that Isaiah the prophet spoke about to prepare the way for the LORD. John the Baptist was rough; he ate nothing but wild honey and locusts, keeping a simple diet.

His preaching caught fire in Jerusalem, Judaea, and all the region round about the Jordan. People came to him in great number to be baptized for the remission of sins.

Matthew Chapter 3 Summary

Even unbelieving groups came to him such as the Pharisees and the Sadducees (whom John had to throw extra caution towards). John reminded them that being Abraham’s seed means very little compared to actually being a tree with good fruit on it.

Bad trees will be chopped down and thrown in the fire. The chapter transition to the differences in the baptism of John and that of the One who would come after John.

John baptized with water for repentance, but the One after would baptize with the Holy Ghost and with fire. His fire will surely purge and cleanse one clean and would leave the unrepented burned up in an unquenchable fire.

Suffer it so…

John said he wasn’t worthy to bear the shoes of the Messiah and guess who approached him for baptism? The Holy Messiah, Jesus the son of Joseph, came to John requesting baptism, even asking John to suffer it in order to fulfill all righteousness.

Then Jesus was baptized and the heavens were opened and the Spirit of God came down like a dove, lighting on Him. The chapter ended with the voice from heaven that said, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

This is the summary of Matthew chapter 3, glory to the Highest.
