Matthew Chapter 25 Study

Welcome to Matthew chapter 25 bible study, presented by BibleStudyMinistry.com. This is a very interesting and important chapter in the Bible, and especially in the gospels. We get a chance to analyze the words of the LORD’s teachings, which were given in parables.

It is a continuation of the previous chapter and we’ll break it down five verses at a time. In Jesus’ parable, He compared the Kingdom of Heaven to ten virgins who were waiting or preparing to wed the bridegroom.

They could only enter through to the marriage through the bridegroom, whom they were waiting for. We, sons of Adam, can only enter the Father’s kingdom through His only Son, Yahoshua or Jesus the Christ.

The Fools Took Lamps but No Oil

All stories have a dilemma this one was no different; half of the ten virgins were foolish, and the other half were wise. What made the foolish, foolish? The foolish took lamps, but no oil! But wait for a second, what’s up with the lamps and oils.

The oils are used to light the lamps (Exodus 25:6, 35:8,28, Numbers 4:16). The lamp is for light, the Light (Psalm 119:105, Proverbs 6:23). The Light of the world is the Holy Messiah, sent to the world.

In essence, the oil is the substance needed to keep our lamps lightened so we are prepared for the bridegroom. This is why the wise were called or deemed wise, they took enough oil to keep their lamps lit. The foolish on the other hand did not.

Lamps Had Gone Out

Continuing the story, they (the ten virgins) all went to sleep as they waited for the bridegroom who’d tarried a bit. However, at midnight there was a loud cry made that the bridegroom was on his way, in fact, he was there. So the virgins had to wake up and go out to meet him.

When they arose, they all started to trim their lamps, which welcomed the dilemma for the unwise virgins. They began to ask the wise if they could use some of their oil because their lamps had gone out.

The wise, being cautious not to give away their oil and possibly hinder their lamp declined to share. Instead, they suggested the “foolish” go to the market and buy their own oil and get back as quickly as they could. They did and while out, here came the bridegroom.

The Bridegroom Came at midnight

Verse ten said that those that were “ready” went in with him to the marriage, and the door was shut! So let’s look at some of the things here in verses six through ten. First, let’s take the parable and put in characters.

The ten virgins were the people of the earth, the church if you will. The bridegroom, the LORD Jesus Himself. Here are some things to note; the bridegroom came at midnight. This could be literally at midnight or a time when most people are asleep or not expecting the LORD to return.

As the world is asleep concerning the LORD’s return, those who have the oil, which is the word, to keep their lamp shining to guide their way, they will recognize the turn of the tides. Those who are ready will be accepted into the LORD’s marriage.

The Door Was Shut and Could Not Be Opened

Those who are not will be shut out. It reminds me of the days of Noah. It said in the book of Genesis chapter 7 that they that went in, went in male and female of all flesh, as God had commanded him; and the LORD shut him in (7:16).

Once that door was shut, it was shut. The foolish virgins made it back and were shouting for the bridegroom to open the gates for them; to which the bridegroom responded, “I Don’t Know You!”

Here is where Jesus gave the moral of the parable; “Watch, because you don’t know the day or hour when the Son of man will come.” In other words, you must stay ready. A basketball player looking to get picked up for an NBA contract must stay ready for a tryout or ten-day contract.

The Anointing is GOD’s Word and Spirit

He must stay conditioned, in shape mentally and physically. If he is not ready when the opportunity strikes, he will be dismissed and locked out. The team will tell him, “We don’t know you!”

A woman must do the same for her job or career, or for love of her life; these things may show up and she must be ready. Most importantly, the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand, we must remain ready. The anointing oil of God is His Word and Spirit.

We must keep these in us for the lamp to remain bright so we see and continue to see the path. The chapter then dives into another parable. This goes from verse fourteen to verse thirty; let’s dig in; the Kingdom of Heaven is like a man traveling into a far country.

Parable of the Servants and Staying Ready

He called his own servants and gave them his goods. He gave talents to three different types of people according to their several abilities, then the man left. If you have read the reframe or summary of this chapter, you know what the story is about.

The short is that the first two went and worked their talents and were able to double their talents. The last went and buried his lone talent and did nothing with it. When the lord of these servants returned, the first two presented their lord with the fruits of their labor, how they turned their talents into more.

They were rewarded with praise, called good and faithful, especially since they were faithful with little. Since they were faithful with little, their lord said they would become rulers over many things and enter the joy of their lord. The last servant was not praised at all.

The LORD Requires Interest

He, first of all, gave excuses, he blamed his lord for being a hard man who reaped what he didn’t sow and gathers what he didn’t straw. The man was fearful also and went and hid his talent so he could return it to his lord. He did and his lord called him a wicked and slothful servant.

In addition, he knew the mentality of his lord, hard and leveraged thus he should have put his lord’s money to the exchangers so that when his lord returned he could have received it with interest.

His talent was taken from him and given to the first servant who doubled the five talents and turning them into ten. Then the LORD gave the moral of this story or parable; everyone who has will be given, and such a person will have an abundance.

Talents and Gifts Given by GOD

However, everyone who doesn’t have will have that which they currently have taken away from them. Interesting. By the way, the last servant was called unprofitable and was ordered to be thrown into outer darkness where there are weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Once again, let’s look at the characters of the parable and who they are in real life. Once again, the man, or lord, in this case, is the LORD Jesus; the servants represent mankind. The talents are skillsets or gifts that each man receives from the LORD.

What each man does with his gifts or talents is important and the LORD is observing and will judge each man as profitable or unprofitable. Which one will we be to the LORD? I pray for us all to be profitable.

Dividing the Good from the Bad

This takes us into the last segment of the chapter, where Jesus teaches the importance of charity. This is the charity the apostle Paul spoke about (1 Corinthians 13:2). Jesus spoke about Himself at His return to the earth; He said when the Son of man will come in all of His glory and with His holy angels, He will sit on the throne of His glory.

He will divide the nations putting one group of people to His right, called the sheep in the story, and another group = to His left, call the goats in the story. Then the Son of man refers to Himself as the King, and the King will say to those at His right, Come, blessed of my Father to inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.

They were awarded this prestigious invitation because of their selflessness during their lifetime. They fed the hungry, took in strangers, clothed the naked, visited the sick, visited the imprisoned and they did all of this for the LORD through doing it for others.

Everlasting Punishments for the Goats

Those on the left were given a totally different message; they were told to depart from the King because of their selfishness. The left was cursed and awarded with everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels because they turned a blind eye to the hungry, thirsty, stranger, naked, sick, imprisoned, and oppressed.

They didn’t do this for the LORD because they did not do this for others! They were told to go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into everlasting life. The message or moral of the story is very simple and very direct.

Employ selflessness, charity, and a natural and general love for our brothers and sisters herein and on the earth. This is rewarded by an invitation to the LORD’s kingdom, even the Father’s Kingdom that has been ready for us since the beginning or foundation of the earth.

Helping the Poor NEEDY Sick and Imprisoned

Very simple instruction here, and it is so simple and so “non-glorious” compared to the life and lifestyles presented on major mainstream television. Its simplicity makes people ignore it and chase material things and material platforms.

We ignore the hungry, thirsty, sick, imprisoned, naked, oppressed, and stranger, all in the name of our career, business, family, extreme lifestyle, and more. There is a simplicity in the Anointed One, Jesus, in His life and His teachings or parables.
