After teaching upon the mountain, many were captivated by His doctrine and continued to follow the LORD. Castaways came out, in one instance, a leper came and reverenced Him; the leper asked the LORD if He would, can the LORD make him clean?
Jesus took His hand and touched the leper and said He will, “Be clean,” the LORD said. Immediately his leprosy was cleansed. Jesus then instructed the man not to tell anyone what just took place, but to go and show himself to the priest.
He was also to follow the custom that caused one to offer the gift that Moses commanded as a testimony to them that he was healed. Jesus then left and came to Capernaum and He was met by a centurion who begged the LORD for assistance.
My Steward is Grievously Tormented
He said to the Jesus, “Lord, my steward is at home lying sick of the palsy, he’s grievously tormented, please help him.” Jesus told the centurion that he would come to his steward, “I’ll come and heal him,” the LORD confirmed.
The centurion took things to another level. He replied to the LORD that he was not worthy for the LORD to come to his home, so he asked the LORD to simply speak the word only. “Just speak the word only, and my servant will be healed,” the centurion spoke to the LORD.
“Because I am a man under authority and I have soldiers under me; I can say to one go and he will go, and to another come and he will come; I can command one to do and he’ll do it,” the centurion voiced.
Not in Israel
He understood authority. When Jesus heard this, He marveled in a bit of admiration and was surprised. He turned to His followers behind Him and said, “I have not seen such great faith in all of Israel, I tell you the truth.”
This sparked the LORD to speak some drastic words towards the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. The LORD said, “I tell you that many will come from the east and west and will sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven, but the children of the kingdom will be moved out into outer darkness,” the LORD exclaimed.
There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth in that outer darkness. Jesus returned His attention to the centurion; He told him to go his way, and as he had believed, so be it done to him. His steward was healed in the same hour he encountered Jesus.
Jesus Healing
Then Jesus came to Peter’s house and saw that Peter’s wife’s mother was down with a bad fever. The LORD touched her hand and the fever went away. She got up and began to minister the guest.
Then the evening came and the city brought many to the LORD who were possessed with devils. Jesus removed the spirits with His word and healed them all who were sick. All this took place so it was fulfilled the words spoken by Esaias (Isaiah) the prophet that said, “Himself took our infirmities and bare our sicknesses (see Isaiah 53:4).
The crowds around Jesus began to swell and when He saw the multitudes He commanded His disciples to move to the other side (of the water). This was when a certain scribe came to Him and said he will follow Jesus anywhere He went.
Let the Dead Bury Their Dead
Jesus replied to him, “The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of man has nowhere to lay his head.” Another student/follower asked the LORD to allow him to first bury his father who’d recently passed. Jesus replied, “Follow me, and let the dead bury their dead.”
So He entered into a ship and His disciples got in with Him; while they were coasting, a great violent storm began in the sea. It was so bad that the ship was flooded as waves seeped inside.
In all the commotion, Jesus was inside asleep when His disciples came to Him and awoke Him. They scream, “Wake up LORD and save us, we’re about to perish.” Jesus calmly said to them, “Why are you so fearful, O you men of little faith?”
In the Country of the Gergesenes
He got up and harshly criticized the winds and the sea; after this, there was a great calm over the waters. Everyone onboard was amazed and astonished. They asked what kind of man is this that even the winds and sea obey Him.
They finally came to the other side of the body of water, which landed them in the country of the Gergesenes in Gergesa, a little ways from Decapolis. As soon as Jesus got off the ship, two men met him possessed with devils.
They came out of a graveyard and they looked for trouble with anyone. They were so fierce that nobody passed that way when they traveled in that area. As soon as they saw the LORD, they shouted out, “What do we have to do with you Jesus, you Son of God?”
Entered the Swine
The LORD’s disciples wondered how did these guys know Jesus and why did they call Him the Son of God? They continued, “Have you come here to torment us before the time appointed!”
There was a large herd of pigs not so far from them, the pigs were eating garbage and the devils asked the LORD if He would allow them to be removed into the herd of swine? The LORD permitted their request.
They left the men and entered the swine and when they did they whole herd ran violently down a steep cliff falling into the sea and died there in the waters. The keepers of the pigs fled the town and went into the city and told everyone everything that happened.
They told what happened to the men possessed of the devils. Then the entire city came out to meet with Jesus and when they saw Him, they asked if He would leave out of their coasts.
