Leviticus Chapter 18 Summary: Chapter Summaries

In Leviticus chapter 18 summary, God reminded the children of Israel to keep away from the behavior the Egyptians enacted in their land. Likewise, they were also commanded to avoid the actions of the Canaanites.

The Israelites were commanded not to walk in the Canaanites ordinances, but instead, walk in God’s ordinances and ways. Some of these vile acts included things like sexual intercourse with their near kin.

This was an abomination and not to be done in Israel, as it was in Canaan. God listed a long list of people who the children of Israel were not to “uncover their nakedness,” a term associated with having intercourse with.

Leviticus Chapter 18 Summary

These are a bit obvious for the generation today to understand, but maybe not so obvious back then. For instance, a man should not lay with his daughter in law or his brother’s wife; it is not good.

A man lying with another man (carnally) as he would with a woman; it is an abomination. Likewise, a woman laying with a woman (carnally), or a woman laying with her nephew, this was also outlawed and is an abomination.

These were abominations and should not be done or the perpetrator would be killed! This behavior defile the perpetrator and thus defile the land and God would certainly visit the iniquity of the people if they did this.

The LORD would also spue the children of Israel out of the land as God had done the people before them if this behavior started and persisted. This is the summary of Leviticus chapter 18, glory to the Highest.
