Kingdom of Priests: Between the Cherubims

Kingdom of Priests: Between the Cherubims

Between the Cherubims

The Psalmist writes that God is my King of old, and this God/King works salvation in the midst of the earth (Psalm 74:12). Who is working salvation according to the Bible? Jesus, the Holy Messiah from God.

He is a King of old, the ancient of days. Sovereign rulership is not new to God, sovereign rulership is His. Just look at how old God, who works salvation in the middle of the earth, who is a King of old, actually is. Look at the set of verses from Psalm chapter 99.

1 The Lord reigneth; let the people tremble: he sitteth between the cherubims; let the earth be moved.

Verse one above says the Lord reigneth or rules, let the people shake, shudder, and quiver, because of Him who sits between the cherubims. The earth is moved at His very presence, but more important to the point is the question. Who is known for sitting between the cherubims?

He is God Alone Over the Kingdoms

In Isaiah 37 verse 16, it is written, the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel is enthroned or dwells between the cherubims, He is God and is God alone over all kingdoms of the earth.

In Psalm 80 verse 1, the plea being made is towards the Shepherd of Israel, who dwells between the cherubims; this is God. In 1st Samuel chapter 4, verse 4, the writer says the people went to retrieve the ark of the covenant of the Lord of hosts, which dwells between the cherubims.

Moses, went into the tabernacle of the congregation to speak with God and heard the voice of one speaking to him from the mercy seat on the ark of the testimony. The voice was coming from between the cherubims.

God spoke to Moses from the Mercy Seat between the cherubims (Numbers 7:89).

In Exodus chapter 25 verse 22, God declares to Moses and Aaron that He will meet with Moses and communicate with him from the mercy seat, which is between the two cherubims. Why is God’s Throne between the cherubims?

It goes back to what happened after Adam and Eve rebelled against God in the Garden. When they declared independence from the heavenly kingdom through rebellion! God drove the man out of the Garden of Eden. God then placed Cherubims with flaming swords to keep the way of the Tree of Life.

He Dwells Between the Cherubims

In other words, God put cherubims around the Tree of Life, the Tree of Life is God, the Word. Throughout the Bible, every time we see the God of Israel, He dwells between the cherubims, we are seeing God, the Lord of Hosts, the Shepherd of Israel, all of these equate the Tree of Life.

God is between the cherubims as a reminder to man that we rebelled and no longer have free access to God as we did prior to our rebellion.

This is Jesus, the Holy Messiah from God, sitting on the Throne between the cherubims.
