Daily Wisdom Bible Study – He that Keepeth his Mouth Keepeth his Life
A wise son heareth his father’s instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke.
2 A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence.
Become or remain wise as one that listens to his father’s instruction, even His Father in Heaven’s instruction. Avoid being as the man who expresses contempt and does not take correction. We all will eat by the words that come out of our mouth because they proceed from the mind. Those who want to remain transgressors will eat upon violence. We made our choices, or as “mama” use to say, we make our beds.
He that Keepeth his Mouth Keepeth his Life: Daily Wisdom
3 He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.
If you watched TV during the 90s, two television shows really stick out in my memory. For the great population among the ‘Jewish’ and European American people, a show called Seinfeld. Among the African American, a show called Martin. On the show with Martin, there was a character named Jerome. Jerome was a loud-mouth ‘wanna-be’ pimp. Whenever Jerome entered a room he had a famous sing-alone quote he’d sing aloud. It went like this; “I say Jerome in the house (repeat 3 or 4 times), watch ya mouth!” (clip to get a real example below)
Jerome was telling folks to watch what they had to say about him in order to protect themselves, because if they talked recklessly, he would go to work on them. We need to take this advice seriously. He (or she) who watches their words, will keep their life. The person who opens their mouth wide, will have destruction come upon them eventually! WATCH YA MOUTH!
4 The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.
“I want a new car, and a big house, and clothes, and jewelry, and three pet cheetas, and a cook, gotta have a cleaner, when I get all these, then I will be happy and accomplished.”
“What have you done today to move in that direction?”
“I’m about to do something right after I finish watching my favorite reality show!”
The sluggard or lazy person has all these desires (they often watch on TV), but they have nothing to show forth. It is the person who wakes up and works wisely and diligently whose soul will be made fat.
