Joshua Chapter 17 Summary
Chapter 17 of Joshua begins with the tribe of Manasseh, the firstborn of Joseph, and their inheritance and lot of land.
Zelophehad, who came out of Machir, who was the son of Manasseh, had daughters who Moses promised would receive an inheritance as the sons do.
They came before Joshua to claim the land, which God promised them. Manasseh and Ephraim had their lands, but they were unable to fully drive out the inhabitants of every city.
Therefore, the Canaanites still dwelled in the land with them, however, when the children of Israel became stronger, they were able to put the Canaanites to tribute. Unfortunately, they could not fully drive the Canaanites out.
The children of Joseph (Ephraim and Manasseh) believed they were great people, and expressed this to Joshua. Because of their stature, they believed they should have more land and towns within Israel.
Joshua replied to them, if they are so great, they should go claim the land by driving out the Perizzites and the giants and all the Canaanites in the valley who were known to have chariots of iron.
Joshua told them to accomplish that, and possess the land, if they are so great. This is a brief summary of Joshua chapter 17.
We pray the Father to add a blessing to the reading and doing of His Holy Word through His Son Jesus the Messiah. Amen!
