Jeremiah 50 Report Babylon Is Taken And Bel Is Confounded

This is Bible Study Ministry.com, your online bible study supplement source. Today we have a Jeremiah 50 Reframe and Report: Babylon is Taken and Bel is Confounded; let’s get into it. This is the word that the Sovereign Almighty spoke through Jeremia the prophet concerning Babylon and the land of the Chaldeans.

“Announce and declare to the nations; lift up a banner and proclaim it aloud; do not hold anything back when you say, ‘Babylon is taken and Bel is confounded. Yes, Babylon is captured and Bel is put to shame; Marduk is shattered, her images are disgraced. Her idols are broken in pieces.”

Why?

Because a nation from the north will come against her; it will make her land an object of horror. No one will live in it; both man and beast will flee from it.

“In those days and at that time,” declares the Sovereign Almighty, “the children of Efraim and Juda will come together, weeping as they come, and they will seek the Sovereign Almighty, their Creator. They will ask the way to Jerusalema and turn their faces towards it. Yes, they will come and join themselves to the Sovereign Almighty in an everlasting covenant that will never be forgotten.

My people are lost sheep; their shepherds have led them astray, causing them to roam the mountains. They have wandered from mountain to hill; they have forgotten their resting place. All who found them devoured and afflicted them, and their enemies said, “We are guilty, because they have sinned against the Sovereign Almighty, the habitation of righteousness, the Sovereign Almighty, the hope of their fathers.”

Flee from the midst of Babylon!

Depart from the land of the Chaldeans; become like he-goats that lead the flock. Because behold, I stir up and bring against Babylon an assembly of great nations from the land of the north. They will line up against her; from the north, she, Babylon, will be captured.

The arrows of these nations will be like skilled warriors who do not return empty-handed. Chaldea will be plundered all who plunder her will have their fill,” declares the Sovereign Almighty.

“Because you rejoice, because you sing in triumph- you who plunder My inheritance– because you frolic proudly like a heifer treading grain and neigh like mighty stallions, your mother will be greatly ashamed. She that bore you will be disgraced.

Behold, she will be the least of the nations, a wilderness, a dry land, and a desert. This will be the case because of the wrath of the Sovereign Almighty. She will not be inhabited any longer; she will become completely desolate. All who pass through Babylon will be horrified and scoff at all her wounds.

Line up in strict formation around Babylon, all of you who draw the bow.

Shoot at her, shoot at her well! Spare no arrows! Because she has sinned against the Sovereign Almighty, let her receive her rewards. Raise a war cry against her on every side. She has thrown up her hands in surrender; her towers have fallen; her walls are torn down.

Since this is the vengeance of the Sovereign Almighty, take out your vengeance against her. Yes, as she has done, do the same to her. Cut off the sower from Babylon, and the one who wields the sickle at harvest time.

In the face of the oppressor’s sword, each will turn to his own people each will flee to his own land. Akobe is a scattered flock, chased away by lions. The first to devour him was the king of Assyria, the last to crush his bones was this Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon.”

Therefore, this is what the Sovereign Almighty of Hosts, the Power of Akobe says; “I will punish the king of Babylon and his land as I punished the king of Assyria. I will return Akobe to his pasture, and he will graze on Carmel and Bashan; his soul will be satisfied on the hills of Efraim and Gilead.

In those days and at that time, declares the Sovereign Almighty of Hosts, a search will transpire for the people of Akobe’s guilt, but there will be none. And for Juda’s sins, but they will not find them. They won’t find them because I will forgive the remnant whom I spare.”

Remarks:

In Jeremiah Chapter 50, the Almighty’s divine judgment is pronounced upon the once-mighty Babylonian empire. This prophetic passage unequivocally declares the impending fall of Babylon, emphasizing the consequences of its arrogance, cruelty, and idolatry.

The Almighty’s wrath is kindled against Babylon’s rulers, and their once-dominant kingdom is destined to crumble. This chapter paints a vivid picture of Babylon’s impending doom, where even its formidable warriors will be shattered, and its once-proud walls breached.

Amidst the pronouncement of Babylon’s judgment, there’s a glimmer of hope for the oppressed Akobean people. Akobean is Akobe, the natural non-westernized name of Jacob. The Akobean people have endured years of suffering under Babylon’s oppressive rule, but the Almighty promised their redemption and safety.

They will find refuge in their own land, free from the fear and tyranny that had long plagued them. This chapter not only highlights the Almighty’s divine justice but also accentuates the stark contrast between the fall of a ruthless empire and the liberation of a downtrodden nation. It serves as a testament to the Almighty’s power and resolute commitment to justice, offering consolation and expectancy to those who had suffered for so long under the oppressive rule of Babylon.

Another subject in the chapter to take note of is the timetable of the Babylonian fall. This chapter’s event has already taken place. Biblical scholars and institutions will disagree, but we know through the Holy Spirit this is true. Jeremia knew that the harsh destruction of Jerusalema by the Babylonians would return to them. Nebuchadnezzar and his military went overboard. They would have this returned upon their own heads, even doubled.

We here at BSM used to believe this chapter was speaking on a future event to take place against “Babylon the Great,” which is Rome. We understand scriptures and prophecy is double. There will be a demise to Babylon the Great. However, what Jeremia the prophet wrote here in chapter 50 took place and will take place again on a grander scale.
