Jeremiah 18 Reframe: I Will Repent of the Evil I Thought To Do; BibleStudyMinistry.com. This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the Sovereign LORD. “Go down at once to the potter’s house and there I will reveal My message to you.”

So I went to the potter’s house and saw him working on a wheel or disc. But the vessel he was shaping from the clay became flawed in his hand; so he formed it into another vessel, as it seemed best for him to do.

Then the word of the Sovereign LORD came to me, saying, “O house of Israel, can I not treat you like this potter treats his clay,” declares the Sovereign LORD? “Just like the clay in the potter’s hand, so are you in My hand, O house of Israel.

Judah Refuses to Listen to the Holy Spirit

At any time I might announce that a nation or kingdom will be uprooted, torn down, or destroyed. But if that nation I warned turns from its evil and repents, then I will also repent of the evil I planned to inflict upon them.

And if at another time I announce that I will build up and establish a nation or kingdom, and if it does evil in My sight, refusing to listen to My voice, I will repent of the good I intended for it.”

So, therefore, tell the men of Judah and the residents of Jerusalem that this is what the Sovereign LORD says, “Behold, I am planning evil for you and devising a plan against you. Turn right now, each of you from your evil ways, correct your conduct and deeds.

Israel Has Forgotten the Lord

But they will reply, It is hopeless. We will follow our own plans, and each of us will act according to the stubbornness of his evil heart.” Therefore, this is what the Sovereign LORD says, “Inquire among the nations; who has ever heard of such a thing like this?

The virgin Israel has done the most terrible thing one can do. Does the snow of Lebanon ever leave its rocky slopes? Or does its cool waters, flowing from a distance ever run dry? Yet My people have forgotten Me.

They burn incense to worthless idols that make them stumble in their ways on the ancient roads and walk on bypaths instead of the highway. They have made their land a desolation, a perpetual object of scorn; everyone who passes by will be appalled and shake their heads.

Scattered Before Their Enemy

I will scatter them before the enemy like the east wind. I will show them My back and not My face in the day of their harsh calamity.” Then some said, “Come let us make plans against Jeremiah for the law will never be lost to the priest or counsel to the wise or an oracle to the prophet. Come on, let us denounce him and his words and pay no attention to anything he says.”

Give heed to me, O Sovereign LORD; listen to what my accusers are saying! Should good be repaid with evil? Yet they have dug a pit for me. Remember how I stood before You to speak well on their behalf, to turn Your wrath from them.

Therefore, hand their children over to famine, pour out the power of the sword upon them. Let their wives become childless widows and their husbands to be slain by disease, and their young men struck down by the sword in battle.

Allow the Enemy be Overthrown

Let a cry be heard from their houses when You suddenly bring raiders against them, for they have dug a pit to capture me and have hidden snares for my feet. But You O Sovereign LORD, know all their deadly plots against me.

Do not wipe out their guilt or blot out their sin from Your sight. Let them be overthrown before You; deal with them in the time of Your anger!

Chapter Review

The Sovereign Lord our Father is very good with parables and metaphors. In this chapter (Jeremiah 18) the Father had His prophet Jeremiah go down to a potter’s house who was working on a disc.

The potter made a mistake and saw it, so he reworked the clay as he saw fit. That’s when the ALMIGHTY said to Jeremiah, His prophet, isn’t the children of Israel in My hands like the clay in that potter’s hand.

The only difference between us in the ALMIGHTY’s hands and the clay in the potter’s hand is that we today have something called free will. We have free agency to do what we want; we can disobey or submit to the will of our Heavenly Father.

THE United States

The ALMIGHTY then shared with Jeremiah how reasonably fair He is. Here is His very fair reasoning; if He states He will do evil to the wicked and they repent, He will repent of the evil He had planned against them.

Likewise, He said if He establishes a nation for good, but they turn from doing good to evil, He would repent of His good and give them evil. The United States and all the nations committing fornication with her should take heed fast! His reasoning has been long stated in the house of Israel’s past. It was demonstrated in 1st Samuel chapter 2 verse 30.

“Therefore the LORD, the Creator of Israel, declares: ‘I promised that your house and the house of your father should go in and out before me forever,’ but now the LORD declares: ‘Far be it from me, for those who honor Me I will honor, and those who despise Me shall be lightly esteemed.”

The Lord Would Have Repented

Therefore all the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem had to do was repent, confess their sins and refrain from doing evil any longer. Once they took this good action then the Sovereign Lord would have repented of the harsh captivity He promised to them!

But that was too much for the people of Judah. Sometimes if you play sports or if you’re in school and you get so behind in schoolwork or in a competitive game you get so behind on the scoreboard, you can feel like there is no hope.

The Horrible of All Horrible Decisions

It is never too late when you have Goodwill. Also if you have the compassion and the love of the Heavenly Father at your call. However, the children of Israel felt defeated they said ‘there was no hope’ and that they would continue to their own devices.

And this is comparable to being bailed out of jail but refusing to leave. Thus the Heavenly Father asked the heathens, the nations if they had ever heard of such a thing; had they ever witnessed such a horrible decision the virgin of Israel was making.

The horrible decision was to forsake and forget their Maker their Creator to their demise. This will have all nations shaking their head. By His Word, the Father had to send them into captivity, and it was a double dose of captivity for both the men of Judah and the house of Israel.

A Massive Captivity for Judah

The house of Israel was partially in the Assyrian captivity and the house of Judah in the Babylonian captivity. The Sovereign Lord checked to see if they were tired of being choked out. They hadn’t! Thus the house of Judah continued into the captivity to Rome under the terror of general Titus.

The house of Israel was put back into massive captivity in their own land by the hands of the French, Portuguese, and Spanish at the hand of Christopher Columbus when the Americas were seized!

As Jeremiah prophesied to the people, it had gotten so bad in Judah that the people wanted to seize Jeremiah and stop him. I’m sure they wanted him and other prophets like him to stop speaking.

Stay Close to the Prophets & Holy Spirit

Many prophets were killed for speaking against the government and warning the people of the coming demise of the kingdom. This did not make Jeremiah happy and he prayed that those who spoke against him would be dealt a treacherous blow. He also asked that the Father would not blot out their sins!

Stay close to the prophets, turn from your wicked ways, repent, love your neighbor as you love yourself, seek first the kingdom of the Father and His righteousness. Walk humbly with your Creator through His Son, the Prince, His Majesty, Yashaya (Jesus) the Christ!
