Pretty interesting recoveries today that has led me to ask this question. What are you inventing? What are you inventing in the Word of God?

Please allow me a small space to share with you what this question is all about! First in Psalm 106:
39 Thus were they defiled with their own works, and went a whoring with their own inventions.
In this chapter the writer is referring to the children of Israel, how they were defiled by their own works and went whoring with their own inventions.
In the same chapter, ten verses up …
29 Thus they provoked him to anger with their inventions: and the plague brake in upon them.
It says the children of Israel provoked God to anger with their inventions, therefore a plague broke out on them. What are these inventions? We do know God is not pleased with them at all, and bad things are associated with their own inventions.
“Provoked God to anger” … “they were defiled with” … so it is not put in a positive light to have one’s own inventions.
It would be safe to say this is not the Thomas Edison type of invention.
Again, let us back up to Psalm chapter 99
This chapter begins with Jesus, sitting between the cherubims, but it is at verse eight we are concerned with at this moment.
8 Thou answeredst them, O Lord our God: thou wast a God that forgavest them, though thou tookest vengeance of their inventions.
God answered the children of Israel, and forgave them for their sins, even though God forgave them, God still took vengeance against them for their inventions! What is this? The inventions pertain to sin, things God has not commanded us to do or has commanded us NOT to do!
In Deuteronomy chapter 4, God gave a strict command many people ignore today:
2 Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.
It clearly states we are not to add unto the Word of God, neither are we to diminish (take from) the Word of God. People are inventing stuff, and causing themselves harm in doing so.
Revelations 22
18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
Jesus reminds us that we are not to freestyle, ad-lib, or invent any new thing to the Word of God. It is sufficient as it is!
What Are You Inventing?
The reason we need not to add anything is because God is perfect and God changes not!
See Ecclesiastes chapter 7:
29 Lo, this only have I found, that God hath made man upright; but they have sought out many inventions.
God has made man upright and righteous, yet man has gone and sought out many inventions. Let the people of the world create new ways to rebel, new ways they call praise, new ways to do the Word, as for me and my house, and as for you and your house …
We are going to serve God with gladness, mercy, and truth, inventing nothing to add or take away from God’s statues, ordinances, laws, commandments, and judgments! Praise God on High!
