Hear O Earth I Will Bring Evil Upon This People: Since the house of Judah rejects the Most-High’s way of life, this is the consequence of such a decision. This is what the Sovereign LORD says, “Stand at the crossroads and look.

Ask for the ancient paths; ask where is the good way? Then walk in it and find rest for your souls. However, they said, ‘We will not walk in it!’ Also, I appointed watchmen over you and said, ‘Listen for the sound of the trumpet.’ But they answered, ‘We will not listen!’

Therefore hear, O nations, and learn O congregations, what will happen to them. Hear, O earth! I will bring evil upon this people, even the fruit of their thoughts will be evil because they have not listened to My words.

Laying Stumblingblocks for Them

They have neither listened to My Law, but have rejected it. What use is frankincense from Sheba to Me, or sweet cane from a distant land? Your burnt offerings are not acceptable, your sacrifices do not please Me at all.”

Therefore, this is what the Sovereign LORD says, “I will lay stumblingblocks before the house of Judah; fathers and sons both will stagger and fall; friends and neighbors will perish.”

This is what the Sovereign LORD says, “See, an army is coming from the land of the north; a great nation is stirred from the ends of the earth. They grasp the bow and spear and handle them very well. They are cruel and show no mercy.

Pain Like A Woman in Labor!

Their voice roars like the sea, and they ride upon horses, lined up like men in formation against you, O Daughter of Zion.” “We have heard the reports; our hands are limp and feeble. Anguish has gripped us like the pain of a woman in labor.

Do not go out to the fields; do not walk the roads. For the enemy has a sword; there is a terror on every side.” “O daughter of My people, dress yourselves in sackcloth and roll around in dust and ashes.

Mourn, bitterly, wail with a mighty wailing, as you would for your only son because suddenly the destroyer will come upon us.” I have appointed you as a tester of metals among My people so you may know and try their ways.

Rejected Reprobate Silver

All of them are hardened rebels, grievous revolters walking around with slanderers. They are bronze and iron; all of them are corrupt. The welders are burned, they blow fiercely, blasting away the lead with fire.

The refining proceeds in vain, they will be called reprobate silver, for the wicked are not purged and the Sovereign LORD has rejected them.

Chapter Remarks

Take a moment and read about the destruction of Jerusalem in the book of second Chronicles chapter 36, will you? Then read about the destruction from the non-Israelite perspective from an online encyclopedia.

Both accounts will read very brutal for the Kingdom of Judah. Again, read about the Romans taking down the remnant of the house of Judah in 70 CE, again it is brutal.

The starvation, the execution of over 500 people a day; can make the atrocities today look like happy living. We mention this because this is the title of this post.

Consequences of Our Decisions

The Sovereign LORD of Hosts commands the earth to listen because He will bring evil upon these people, the people of Judah. Just from the historical accounts mentioned above, the Most-High did not slack in His word. He delivered on all sides.

Unfortunately, the historical accounts are the consequence of their decisions. Their decisions have fallen on the back and necks of their children; it has even fallen on the nations who are supposed to follow the lead of the children of Israel.

For the nations, it is like having a horrible older sibling teaching horrible behavior. The Most-High is not happy with sacrifices and offerings, and rituals all the stuff the children of men ascertain with serving God.

The Fruit of Their Thoughts

The process is, if you won’t listen to My prophets, then listen to the brutality of the nations that will be sent against you. This is what took place, worldwide captivity; the children of Israel became known as a reprobate silver.

Many of the children of Israel have been made reprobate; this is why it is said in verse 19, even the fruit of their thoughts will be evil. The wicked weren’t purged among them and thus the Sovereign LORD rejected them.

It’s like a stubborn bad behaving teen or young adult trying to live in your house and do whatever they want. The Most-High said, “Get Out, and while you’re out cover your head from these thugs I will send after you!”

The Writings of the Prophets, Jeremiah 6

That is harsh, that is hardcore, but that is precisely what the Creator of Israel did to His people. Hard love, hard discipline, hard chastisement. Jeremiah 6, like all books and writings of the prophets, gives us much to think about, pray about, and most importantly, sincerely repent about.
